Activities after eye surgery / surgeries Posted: 06-21-07 07:24am
I have had detached retinas repaired in
both eyes by the schleral buckle
method(one in 2005 one in 2006). Later, I
had a macular pucker removed from one eye
by having a vitrectomy. About a month
after that surgery, which was last month,
I developed a tear and some separation
from the schleral buckle in my other eye.
I am currently dealing with a pneumatic
bubble in that eye, waitng for it to
absorb.
I am a collector of old military rifles
and one of my hobbies is shotting these
rifles. Some have a pretty decent level of
recoil and I am wondering, can I continue
to shoot these rifles after undergoing
these surgeries? Based upon my past
retinal detachments and repair, must I
totally refrain from shooting these
forever?
Thank you,
steve in michigan

Well, after your experience with such
serious eye disorders, it seems that you
can still shoot the antique military
rifles ... but the precision will be
probably very low. You can always ask for
medical clearance for this activity from
your ophthalmologist.
