Q: Irregular Period While On Birth Control

I've been on the pill for about 4 months now, after taking a year off of them. Before I was on them for 6 years. I started my period two weeks ago today, which lasted about 4 days. It was moderate the first day then light the last 3 days. Well, today I am bleeding again. I'm cramping just like it's a normal period but I'm not on my "sugar pill" week. It's only been 10 days since my cycle started. I have been under a lot of stress and I have been taking Phenergan and Ultram for nausea and headaches for over 6 months so I doubt medication has anything to do with it. I did start taking ginger root 3 days ago. Also, I'm on the 2nd week of my pill pack (the blue pills). I had my CBC checked on May 25 so I know I'm not anemic. What could cause this? Should I go to the emergency room? It's not heavy, but a little bit more than "spotting". For someone who is always regualr...this is scary to me.

Breakthrough bleeding like this is supposedly fairly normal. Other supporters can tell you in more detail if the amount of bleeding is normal.

I don't think you should worry unless it gets very heavy and last for quite a few days.

You are right, the medications you are/were taking will not effect your pills or your cycle. However, stress can. Even if you are on birth control. So, I would guess that is your problem.

Break through bleeding is very common (but inconvenient). I, personally, have experienced this a few times in the past. I could have break through bleeding just a severe as my normal 'cycle' during the sugar pills. My doctor told me that unless it is very heavy, or happens on consecutive months, not to worry. However, if you are uncomfortable with this, please call your doctor. Either your doctor or nurse will be able to tell you if you should be concerned.
