Q: Healing Vitamin

My husband came back from the ENT Doctor after a long bout with a middle ear infection and was told that he has a hole in his eardrum, but that is may heal. Since the ear drum is skin, I thought maybe I could get him on a vitamin that would help the healing process. He currently has 85% hearing loss in that ear.

He has a sensitive stomach and takes Nexium once a day. Any suggestions?

Welcome to .ehealth!

Did his ear drum rupture from the infection? Is that why he has a hole?

I suggest you call his doctor. I'm not sure what would be safe to put on it while it is still open.

I hope he is feeling better soon!

Hi! Sorry to hear about your husband.
How is he now?
I don't know what vitamin will be good for him. Just give him more fruits and fruit juices.

His ear apparently ruptured from the infection. Now that the infection is gone, there is nothing else the doctors can do. They said it is possible that it would heal itself but time would tell. I was hoping to find a vitamin that would assist in the healing process with hopeful prognosis that it would heal over.

Unfortunately, I can't help much with a vitamin to help.

However, I can give you some personal experience. I have had my right ear drum rupture once and my left ear drum rupture twice. (all from an infection). I was younger when this happened. (about 12 and then 16). I didn't do anything above and beyond, really, to help them heal. I kept water from going in them for the first few weeks. (meaning, I was very careful during showers and I stayed away from pools). But, mine healed naturally. I do have some scar tissue (I don't heal well) and some minor hear loss in both ears, but that is to be expected.

I do however remember some drops that the dr prescribed me to help with the discomfort and irritation. (I'm fairly sure they were either 'numbing' or 'soothing') But, you would have to ask his doctor about those.

I hope he heals well and is feeling better shortly. Please keep us posted.
