Hi all,
My little guy had his 2 month check up a while ago and while we were there, the Dr. discovered what he called "a very noticable heart murmur" that was not present at his previous check-up's.
I have reascerached it to death and found lots of info on the topic. The Dr. set us up with an appointment to see a pediatriac cardiologist so that he could have an ECK just to be on the safe side. Well, he's 3 monts and 1 week old now and his appointment is on Thursday.
I'm hoping there is nothing seriously wrong...from what I have read it seems to be a common problem that corrects its self eventually.
Has anyone else's little one had this problem? What was the outcome?
Thanks.

My daughter had a "transient murmur" at birth which corrected itself. I don't know much about one which comes later than birth. Is it at all possible that it was there before and it was missed? Sorry I can't help much more, but I know lots of people go through their whole lives witha murmur and do just fine. Good luck at the appointment!

there have been a bunch of babies on here that have had murmurs and i think they've all corrected themselves.

this is much easier said than done, but try not to worry about it! let us know how the appointment goes!

Oni has a murmur. SHe was put into the hospital for other reasons and the Dr.s(several of them) heard the murmur distinctly.

When I took her to her regular Dr. I was furious that he had never mentioned it. He told me "I don't mention them many times because they correct themselves and cause the mother unnecessary stress!"

so try not to stress about it. I'm sure your baba will be ok! If it gets any worse, thank .god we're in a time that has all the medical capabilities to fix these things! Wink

i was born with a heart murmur, back in 1985. because of it, i was born a "blue baby." i wasn't diagnosed with a murmur until i was about 2-mo's old. they told my mother the same thing, that it would clear up on it's own. then, after some more doctor's appointments, they gave me a 2-yr life expectancy.

low & behold, i'm 21-yr's of age & pregnant myself. my heart condition never fully healed itself, so i have yearly check-up's with a cardiologist. everything has been fine. i live a completely normal life.

because of my heart condition, i am a high risk pregnancy. i had a fetal-echo performed at the end of may, to check the baby's heart. my baby is healthy, as is their heart. my biggest worry is now at rest.

as for your son, i'm sure he'll be fine. don't stress yourself out. it is common for a baby to have a heart murmur. also, try not to research too much, because you'll come across a lot of scarey things which will only cause you to stress out more. wait until you see a cardiologist. i wish you & your child lots of luck. if you have any questions, i'd be more than happy to answer them. i know quite a bit about heart problems from speaking with my own doctor's.

It was so weird to see Sebastians little heart on the ultrasound. But the Dr. assured us that the problem will likley correct itself by the time he is a year old and if anyone were to have a heart problem then this is the one to have! It turns out that the Murmur is caused by a 3mm hole in his heart Sad it does not effect his day to day life at all. We have to go back in 1 year for a check up and if it hasn't healed by then we will re-assess what to do....the Dr. wouldn't talk to us about the "what-if's" because in almost all cases it just heales itsself.
The worst part of the whole day was going to the childrens hospital and seeing all the kids and tiny babies and knowing that some of them may be terminal. There were parents camped out in the halls and waiting rooms and a chapple in the cardiology ward we were in. I felt more heart ach and compassion for people than I thought I had in me.

My daughter has a heart murmur. She had her second echocardiogram the end of this past .april, and it was confirmed it has gotten smaller in size. I don't recall the size of it when she had her first echo when she was 2 weeks, but the cardiologist said it was smaller. So it's correcting itself, slowly but surely! At my daughters 15 month check up, her regular pediatrician couldn't hear it. So hopefully that's the case with your little one!

Heart Murmers run in my family. My sisters both have one, as does my mother and grandmother. It really isnt anything to be too concerned about. If the doctors are concerned, they will tell you. All three of my sisters children have one. The oldest is 15 and fine. The middle child was actually born with what they call a reversed Heart (due to his mother drinking when pregnant). Everything in his heart is attatched to something different and it works in reverse mode. He is now 2.5 yrs old and just starting to develop problems. However they are all issues that can so far be delt with by medication or surgery. Her youngest son has a heart murmer but they told her that it is nothing for her to worry about. So, I wouldn't worry much about it at all. There are more people out there who have no idea that they even have a murmer and are living their lives without any problems. I am sure that everything will be fine!!!

My second son (now 5yrs old) was born with at heart murmer. His was caused by the vaulve that closes off at birth when the blood flow changes from flowing backward to flowing normaly did not close off completely. We had to take him to Arkansas Childrens Hospital (which we are at now with my new born in the NICU) to have some tests run and when all the tests were run we found out what was causing the murmer and that it should close off by the time he turns 7. At 5 he still has it, however it is alot less noticable when the doctor listens to his heart during check ups. He has not had any health problems because of his murmer. The best advice I can give you on this subject is do not look anything up on the internet about this until you find out what the exact cause of the murmer is, otherwise you will worry yourself when you come across information on serious murmers. I would like to wish your and your little one the best of luck.

Amelia is 11 months old and she still has hers. We have been to a pediatriac cardiologist a number of times....and they keep saying she is fine. She tends to stop breathing for moments at a time and turns blue, however they can't seem to find anything wrong with her. My son died, one from being born to early, and 2nd of having a heart condition So I am worried all the time when It comes to her. We have started the moniters again for sleep apnia...and there are a few other problems that she has...but I have been told that the murmer is the least of our problems. He said that It would correct it's self eventually...
