I Need Help Desperately About Dentures Posted: 09-01-03 20:50pm
I am a diabetic and I lost all of my teeth
recently. I am in college and I was
fitted for dentures last week and I paid
the dental office over $3,000.00 dollars
for them.
The dental office that I go to also takes
public aid patients and I overheard the
manager saying something about she would
never know the difference in dentures.
I would like to find out if public aid
patients get different dentures then
people who pay out of pocket and how I
could find out if I got the cheap dentures
after paying the office allot of money for
my dentures.
I live in chicago and are there labs that
I can check and find out if they made me
the dentures that I paid for.
Also, is there a way of telling if my
dentures are the cheap ones or the better
ones that I paid for. Will there be a
marking on the bottom of the dentures?

There really isn't much difference in
dentures, except for the teeth set in
them, which doesn't make one set better
than another either, it would be more
personal preference. The teeth
themselves can either be acrylic (plastic)
or porcelain. Some feel the porcelain
look more "natural", but the acrylic
(plastic) are easier on the arches.
Porcelain teeth don't wear down like
acrylic, but will cause the bone
supporting them to wear down sooner.
Both types of teeth are set in acrylic
(the pink plastic) and cured the same way.
The one question you might ask is if in
a few months or so, does the money you
paid cover having them relined. This
would be needed if your teeth were
extracted, and the dentures were put in
your mouth the same day. As you go
through the healing process, your bone
structure and gum tissue will shrink,
causing the dentures to loosen.
Did what you pay include extracting the
teeth or was that a separate charge?

Dentures And 21yrs Old Posted: 10-01-03 03:36am
Hi! I recently got my dentures after a 6
month process. I got my dentures paid for
by medicaid and it is a much longer and
boring wait compared to buy them myself.
My mothers dentures she paid for herself
and ours are exactly the same except my
name is imprinted in mine. I had my teeth
pulled and had to wait until my gums
completely healed before they could start
the process of fitting me. After they
healed it was another 4 weeks before I got
my dentures due to coming in every week
and molding then waxing and fitting them.
I would say they are the same either way
you go. The only difference is the teeth
you pick and what color. I do say I hate
wearing them. My mouth feels like it
can't breathe. I hope this goes away but
I dont know. I can only stand to wear
them for a couple of hours before I take
them out. I do say they fit perfectly in
my mouth, even my bottoms do. My dentist
was so suprised they fit so well. Waiting
longer to let you gums heal and form back
to normal is the best way to go. I
recommend it to everyone. But if you can
keep your teeth. Please do. Although you
have no more tooth aches and dentist
cleanings every 6 monthes. I wish that I
had my teeth because it is so much better
then dealing with the feeling of dentures.

Dentures At An Early Age. Posted: 10-24-05 08:17am
Hi.
I got dentures at the age of 18 due to
agenetic defficiency. I had all my teeth
extracted in one session and had three
months without teeth.
My dentist explained for me all the
options and we aggreed about a toothless
time of three months. I had somem time
off from school and college so imanaged
not to get too sosially embarrased. She
told me the the transition from a
toothless mouth to a full set of dentures
can be a big topic. The dentures will
feel as if they are totally unacceptable,
but by having them in for 24/7 except for
cleaning will make the transition period
faster. She was very right about
everything. I got the most gorgeous
smile, but felt awful. It did not take
all that amount of time to get used to
them and now I even forget that I have
dentures. I am now 22 and nobody even
think I have dentures. Just try to have
them in the first two days are not funny
at all but you will get used to it I
promise.
I was very anxious about dating and found
out that be normal in ones behaviour and
when it comes to more intimate aproaches
be open. There can of course be some that
do not tolerate dentures. That can be a
psychological matter or just that the
person in question is not worth taking
care of. I have had just good experiences
with telling quite early in a relationship
that I have dentures.
My boyfriend was very surpriced as my
dentures look so natural and he did not
know what to say at first, but it was
shyness. Iasked him if there was anything
against it and he said not at all. He
even likes to see me without teeth and
that just makes thing easier. Espesially
in the evening (.Nights).
Just cheer up and try to search for the
positive things and accept the
defficiencies dentures have. At the young
age dentures normally fits good and by
eating some movement can be felt which
nobody else will see.
Good luck
