Hey,
I read a topic on a woman had some side effects with oral birth control, like headaches, breast tenderness, nausea, and yeast infections. Also she had issues with vaginal and eye dryness along with waking up with them red and crusty. I have a similar problem.
I have been taking oral Sprintec (general brand name progesterone and estrogen hormonal pill) for five years with no problems and always followed the directions. Well since January of this year my eyes have been giving me problems. I have seen four going on five ophthalmologists with several diagnoses. I have taken all kinds of medications from antibiotics to steroids. None have helped me.
My eye problem was said to be an infection, a bacterial infection caused by my contact lenses, a virus, blepharitis (chronic inflammation of eyelids), and the latest with conjunctivitis (chronic inflammation of just the eyes). To make a long story sorta short but informative, I think it may be my birth control.
While reading a Women’s World magazine, came across a new research that long time oral birth control users have a higher C-reactive protein level, which can cause numerous types of inflammations. I have not found any additional information on the link between the two. So with all that said I have made an appointment with another ophthalmologist and my gynecologist as well as information on a C-reactive protein test to see if it is higher than normal.
My symptoms include very red, shallow, dry, and sensitive to light. If anyone else has this issue or have more information, please share.
Thanks
TT
