Need Some Clarification On Hiv Protection With Circumcision Posted: 06-16-07 21:30pm
Hi, I've done some research, and according
to different sources, there is as much as
60% increased protection against HIV with
intercourse when the penis is circumcised.
What does this exactly mean? Does this
only apply when one member of the couple
is with an HIV? Or for some magical
(sarcasm) reason, both of them end up with
HIV because the penis was not circumcised?

Some researchers found that circumcised
men were more likely to get HIV. Other
researchers found that uncircumcised men
were more likely to get HIV. Still others
found that uncircumcised men were more
likely to get HIV if they live in Africa,
but less likely to get HIV if they lived
in America.
So there is a lot of conflicting research
out there. Most of the research suggests
that uncircumcised men are more likely to
get HIV, but most of that research was
done in Africa. That means it may or may
not apply to people in other countries.
One study suggested that there could be a
difference due to hygiene differences in
countries.
Keep in mind that a person can only get
HIV if they sleep with someone who has
HIV. That means circumcising or not
circumcising the penis is not going to
mean anyone will magically get HIV or be
magically protected against HIV. That
means anyone can get HIV if they sleep
with someone who has it, circumcised or
not.

Alright, that clarified it for me well.
Thanks a bunch
