Q: Intense Anxiety Problems

I suffer from bad Anxiety, I am 16 and had it since I was 7 years old, but its only been scary the past 1-2 years, I have an intense fear of Anurisms and brain problems, thinking I might develop one and I could ponder on it all night in bed, scared to my bones some of the time.

I also have this thing with my heart where it seems if I breathe heavily and let the air out slowly, my heart beats about twice very fast and oddly, sorta taking my breath away, often happens when I'm under stress. I don't pay much attention to it, meaning I am not horribly frightened of it, but I should ask.

Kind regards. Smile

You are probably aware that aneurism, tumors and other brain diseases are rare. This is especially so in teenagers.

Anxiety related to the heart and the way it beats is not uncommon and it is often fueled by irregularities in the beat. As any cardiologist will readily confirm, these irregularities are mostly normal. On th other hand a heart keeping perfect rhythm is often a sign of trouble.

Have you discussed your concerns with your family doctor, Nathan? If not I strongly urge you to. He/she may suggest you see a Cognitive behavioral therapist. CBT is a multifaceted therapy that can teach you ways of countering the negative thoughts that are behind your anxiety.

Best wishes.

Cbt is excellent and what has turned my life around. I would highly recommend it if you want long lasting relief. With cbt you will learn how to deal with your stress and reduce all your heart symptoms. Cbt has helped me a great deal and reduced my physical symptoms to where I ma healthier than I have ever been despite being the oldest I have ever been. The cbt book we used in my group is short and straight forward it's called been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz. There's a link where you can read the forward to the book on the website [link removed]
Cbt takes effort as it is the purest form of self help but the rewards have been worth all the effort for me.

My heart also beated at odd paces when I was really upset and felt the anxiety and panic attacks coming on. I went so far as even having to be hooked up to a holter monitor (for heart) for 48 hours. Results came back that it was when I was starting to get frustrated, stressed, panicky that my heart would beat oddly. For me it was like it skipped a beat and then would beat 2xs fast to make up for the skipped beat.
