Yasmin--is My Period Disappearing? Posted: 06-16-07 00:14am
Ok, so I've been on Yasmin for over a year
now--Since May 2006.
The past few months it's gotten lighter,
I've been told that's normal? But this
one in specific, which started yesterday
& on time, is significantly lighter.
Normally on heavy days I go through about
3 super tampons, and I've only used 3 regs
and they didn't have a lot on them. My
cramps are certainly still here too.
The last time I had sex was 6 weeks ago,
we used a condom, and he checked it (we
had a pregnancy scare before). The period
after that came normally & on time,
but it was only two weeks after we did
it.
Also I haven't been under too much stress,
but I was sick as a dog a week before with
the flu & pink eye, and I moved back
into my mom's house--who smokes and has a
lot of dust from pets.
I'm not too worried about pregnancy, we're
super careful.
But at the same time, where is my period
going?
Should I consider changing my BC?
Has this happened to anyone else on
Yasmin?

Yes, yasmin can cause a lightening of your
period. This is normal, and in fact is a
desired side effect! I wouldn't go off
yasmin because you're losing your period;
that's a reason to stay on it!! Enjoy it!
I should reiterate that this is a normal,
and harmless side effect. it will not
affect your future prospects for getting
pregnant, it will not make you infertile.

Oops! I forgot to mention, I have
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome so I already
am infertile. Which is why I'm on
yasmin.
Yes having the lighter period is nice, but
I don't want it stop coming, then that's a
sign of either maybe I am pregnant, or
something else?

No, on yasmin, a light or missing period
is not a sign on pregnancy.
To ease your mind and rule out pregnancy,
why not buy a test? Once you've ruled that
out, you can enjoy your light period in
peace.

Well it went back to it's normal
consistency on day 3 in the evening
(mid-heaviness days). And it's been
normal.
So I'm assuming this was just one of those
weird heaviness periods that likes to
randomly happen.
