My girlfriend has had terrible back pain for about six months.

It comes and goes, but it lingered so long that after about two months she went to get it checked out. She has had kidney infections in the past, so we thought that might be the problem. She was checked for that and cleared. She did rehab for her back muscles for a month or so and then she was cleared. She had a dye test on her kidneys and was cleared. We are at our wits end as to what this constant pain is. The yesterday she satrted to get sick, and I mean vomit sick. She had chills and enourmas pain in her back. The worst she has ever had. We took her to the emergency room, they found blood in her urine and they said it might be a kidney stone. So here are my questions:

can a kidney stone last six months?

Why wouldn't they have found it a month ago during the kindey dye test?

If it has lasted six months and still hasn't past how much longer can it go on?

I believe you can have kidney stones for a long time, I would request an ultrasound of the kidneys, that will show if you have any stones, I just had one done for the same reason, blood in the urine, but it came back negative, also if there are any other problems with the kidneys it should show up with the ultrasound, has she done anything different than usual, picking up any heavy items, fall, that might suggest a back injury, and not a kidney problem, sorry I cant be of much help, but I would definately have the ultrasound done, good luck, hope you get the help she needs
