Q: Stillborn Question

Me and my wife just lost our baby boy last thursday. My wifes due date was June 5th. On the 7th while getting ready I asked if the baby was kicking and she said not that much. She called the nurse and went in to check and they didn't find a heart beat. My wife had a doc appointment Monday June 4th and everything was fine. She had to deliver the baby. He was 7lbs and 21 inches. He was so cute. It wasn't a cord accident and she received the preliminary autopsy report today and they didn't find anything wrong with them. He didn't choke on his poop or have any heart issues. We think that the doctors screwed up on her due date. Her original due date was May 21 and they bumped it back till June 5th. Would that much time cause the baby to not get enough oxygen? My wife is very small framed lady. We just want an answer to what happened. We were so close to his birth. My wife asked her doctor to induce on monday when she was there and the doctor said no. Has anyone had a still born this late in a pregnancy?

IHeartMyBostonTerrier thank you.

We are still in shock because it was so out of the blue. Everyone I called to give the news too thought I was calling to tell them she had the baby. Then I have to tell them that the baby died. We want answers to be honest I don't think we will ever get them. My brother is a nurologist and his really close friend is an OBGYN and she told us that the chance of knowing what happend are 50/50. Her and my brother advised us to hire a lawyer to get the records and have his own doctors look over them. That way we have an outside source look and see if there was any mistakes made. If they say there wasn't then we will at least know it wasn't the doctors fault but just life.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss, I lost my daughter who also went just over full term 7lbs 11oz, nobody was ever able to say, which is hard because you've nothing to focus your anger at, nothing to hang it on. I have learnt to accept by telling myself there was a reason some days that reason is apparent but equally there are many days where it seems so wrong. All i can say is that the reason why the gift of life is so joyous is because it's nothing short of a miracle. Time is a great healer it's been eight years so it's easier for me to say, but my 16year old son and I talk about our little girl often. Warmest thoughts. Philippa

Thank You
Thank You to everyone who has left a post. I really really appreciate your help during these hard times. The hard thing now is waiting for all of my wife's medical records so we can give them to our lawyer. Once his experts go though them and let us know if there was a mistake made we will start to have closure. If they say there was no mistake by the doctors then we will believe it was just his time to go and that he is an angel in heaven with Jesus and God.

How long before it really sets in? I still feel like it's a dream and that my wife was never pregnant.

Has anyone who had this happen to them this late in their pregnancy ever had the doctors give them a specific reason? Has anyone ever sued?

Me and my wife are both professionals who make good money so if we sue it's not about the money but more for the fact that we want them to pay for their mistake. If they did make a mistake I wish I could make them pay in different ways but I don't want to get in trouble. LOL

Hello i sm so sorry to hear about this I have had the same thing happen to me. ON 11/26/2008 I had a dr appt at 2:00pm and my babys heartbeat was superb like 138. I asked my dr to be induced because My backache was terrible and it was just alot on my body being 5'2. I was denied they said because I was only 381/2 weeks and not dialted any they could not do it. I feel like that was not correct I have had many of freinds get induced 2 weeks early. But anyway.. on 11/28/2008 at 12:00am my water broke. Very excited me and the father went to the hospistal to get ready for our baby girl to be told she did not have a heartbeat. Same thing there were no signs of anything wrong and autopsy says that he lungs and some other parts of her on the inside were congested but everything fully developed. I am wanting to do something about this because I feel that if I was induced my daughter would be here and healthy. It takes a long time to get over this but let me know what you find please.

This happens more that we would like to think, and there usually are no solid answers as to why. You can search around the web for articles on stillbirths, and that might give you some insight. I am very sorry for your loss. Only those that have gone through it know the pain you and your wife are feeling. Usually iy's not the doctor's fault, though our first reaction is to blame them. When you get the reports back, they will tell you what didn't cause the death, but you might have to prepare for never knowing what actually did. God bless you, and your little angel.

afelder100,
Sorry to hear about your loss. It's was two years earlier this month and to be honest it is finally getting a bit better. We haven't been able to get pregnant even though we have done all the tests and everything is fine. We have a 5 year old daughter to she keeps our minds busy and off of the thoughts. We did hire an attorney and he spent 6 months looking into it and he said the doctor didn't do anything wrong. It ended up being a string like substance wrapped around the cord and stopped the blood from getting to the baby. The autopsy said there was nothing wrong with him even the gentics report said he was fine. We are praying for the day that we can get pregnant again to hopefully put this chapter of our lives behind us. Be prepared because it was more intese that we could have ever thought. It put a SERIOUS strain on our marriage more then we could have ever imagined. Talking to professional people helped as well as talking to some religous people. God be with you and help you in the future and I hope you have many many more healthy babies.

Hi ya... My name is Tina.... I had a stillborn little girl on the 5th of Feb last yr... She weighed 8lbs 3ounces.... I was 10 days overdue on her. But they kept putting forward my date also. My little girl was completley wrapped in her cord though. But she was def more overdue that they said. All I can say to you and your wife is be strong for each other. I also gave birth to my baby 3 days after finding out. I went into labor naturally. What ye are going through is the most heartbraking thing any parent goes through. Going by my experience it does not get easier its getting harder. Her 1st birthday her second is coming up in Feb and I think about her every waking minute of the day. She was my first and were trying again now. But I have to have some fertility tratment now. I wish u and ur wife the best of luck in the future and I hope ye find Comfort in each other.

Still Born Dies in womb. Why?
Even though this has happened several years ago for you, I am just locating this site. My best friend just loss her baby who was stillborn only a month before the due date. The sad part is the young lady is a twin and her sister was also pregnant along the same time. Now she has lost her baby and the entire family has been crushed. Her twin cannot seem to enjoy her pregnancy now because of the death of the little girl. We don't want to blame anyone and nobody can really explain things. The one thing that I know is the lady was a diabetic - would that have anything to do with the death? Her grave side services are tomorrow. I am taking off work so that I can be with her and her family. We attended the same church and she also does my hair. I was so excited about this opportunity and she was advised that she would be alright in spite of her diabetic condition. I feel so lost as to what to say and how to help her. She just moved into a larger place so she'd have room for the baby and now, her sister is a constant reminder that her own child is not going to come. I'm looking for material to read and to send her to help. I am sure there are grieving parents everywhere and the last thing I want to add to her pain is that "you can have more children". Nobody knows that and it's not much of a help. Since we are both Christians, the only thing I can remind her is the Word of God for comfort and just to be there. What do you all think?
