Hello lee. I am 27, married, two
kids.(healthy) I too am a phenobarbitol
"victim." I take 100mgs at night and
300mgs of dilantin. Dilantin really isn't
as bad as they say. I was diagnosed at
age eight. I hate phenobarbitol because I
know it has held me back in my education.
Long story. There is a cruel duality in
taking meds. You can't blame the
medication because it will seem like you
are not taking responsibility for your
problems. At the same time the docs can't
help and no one understands. I have had
an iq test. Score 137. I think it was
the stanford binet. I graduated high
school with a 3.0 and became an
anthropology major in college but never
finished. Tegrorol seemed like the only
other alternative and I am allergic. I
feel like there is a cloud on my thoughts
all of the time. As if i'm not "getting
it" when others are. Can you relate? I
know i'm not stupid. I can speak
intelligently on many subjects. I just
seem to have this "cloud." I can't help
but think it is the phenobarbitol.

In the Clouds! Posted: 09-11-03 07:26am
Hi lara27, did I get that right? I know
how you fell I have had ep
since birth. But, because of a really bad
disfunctional home life as a child, I
wasn't dianosedtill I became pg. With my
first child. I always new something
wasn't right, but couldn't figure it out!
That's with living with people all around
me who had ep. I would always get acussed
of having my head in the clouds. Grades
1-6 was ok, but I had lots of problems
after that! I loved school, so
that wasn't it. I just couldn't seem to
follow every thing they were trying to
teach me! I also have lupus which kicked
in at around 15yrs. After my " granny"
died at that time I couldn't do it any
more! I had to go back into a home I
wasn' t welcome in. My dad took me to a
doctor and he said to take me out of
school. I did attend a class to study for
my ghd> I was 16 and the state wouldn't
give it to me because of my age! I met
and married my husband and moved to san
diago in '74 he was in the navy. After
moving around for years we ended up in jax
beach, fl. I tried again to get my ged ,
but when I tested at 5th grade level I
gave up! I'm not slow in the way most
people are considered . Just a little
like having a.D.D. It takes me a little
longer to get some things. It has not
stopped me from raiseing two boys , having
a decent job, or keeping my marriage and
family life in good shape. I first took
ph and dilantin for yts. Then I was med
free and sz free for 20yrs. My husband
became termanal in '89 .( he is still
alive and kicking) I started having
grandma szs again. This time I only have
to take dilantin-300mg. At bedtime. The
worst side affect seems to be is my gums
stay very sore.
Sorry to ramble on so much ! But that
is what this web site is for, to get it
all out and share our stories. Thanks for
"lisening" I can't spell very well either!

Hello dreamcatcher and hello all. :d
i am a 35 year old single man who was
diagnosed with epilepsy about nine years
ago. I have been taking dilantin since
that time and have had no problems until
the other day.
Being bad and trying to stretch out my
supply until my next doctor's
appointment, I skipped a couple of doses.
I have been having some auras and have
just been trying to take it easy and take
my meds.
Other than tell me to visit the doctor or
shame me for not taking my meds as
prescribed (i feel enough shame as it is),
is there anything anyone can suggest I
might do or when I might expect for the
auras to stop?
