*preventing cuts
a) cut away from your body
b) cut away from other people
c)do not point a knife or anything sharp at anyone
d) use a knife only for cutting foods
e) wash knives seperately
f) be careful with can tops after opening
g) never pick up broken glass with bare fingers-use a brush and dustpan. Then use a wet paper towel for smaller pieces

*preventing falls
a) wipe up spills immediately
b) use a sturdy ladder or step stool to reach high places
c) if you have a rug make sure its non-glide
d) do not walk on wet floors

*using electricity
a) make sure your hands are dry before handling an electrical appliance
b) keep cords aways from sink and stove
c) check for damaged cords-do not use if there is a problem
d) hold the plug-not the cord-when you unplug an appliance
e) do not put a cord under a rig
f) if food is stuck in an appliance: turn it off, unplug it and remove it with a non-metal object
g) do not plug too many appliances in one outlet

*preventing burns
a) do not wear loose clothing-make sure skin is covered up
b) keep flammable materials away from stove -curtains, paper towel, plastics, etc.
C) use a dry potholder
d) lift the cover of a pot away from you
e) turn pot handles inward
f) wait until stove cools before cleaning
g) stand aside when you open over door
h) pull racks out before putting pans in or out of oven
i) keep spray cans away from stove
j) learn how to use a fire extinguisher

*grease dires
keep things clean so grease doesnt build up
a) turn off the heat
b)pour salt of baking soda over flames
c) put a cover on the pan
d) leave building and call 911 if fire gets out of control
do not
a) pour water on grease fire
b) carry the burning pan to the sink

*preventing poisoning
4 ways poison can enter the body: inhalation, injection, ingestion, absorption
a) follow label instructions carefully
b) never mix cleaners together
c) do not point a spray towards people
d) cover food, dishes and cookware if you need to use a pesticide for insects and bugs and any other harmful sprays
e) keep cleaners in own container with labels
f) store cleaners carefully-in locked cupboards if there are small children
h) call 911 or poison hotline if someone has been poisoned right way.

This is all common sense but I just thought id update everyone. Hehe. This is some of the stuff we learn in hospitality..Its quite interesting!

Hehe no prob! If you guys need to know anything else ie.Food groups, good foods to eat, whmis, anything..I can share some info! Damn school is turning me into some kind of 'smart' kid. Not good...

Awh..I dont know that one. We only learn stuff like healthy eating, workplace stuff..Its actually kindof boring but after march break were gonna start cooking! Yay..Cant wait to eat eat eat! Wink
