Q: Weight...

Ok, so I now weigh 155.5(Dr's scale)

I told him how I gained 60lbs with .oni and *literally* destroyed my body.

He told me that immedietly after giving birth, a woman will lose up to 25lbs(that being the baby, placenta, fluids, etc.)

So, he said he wants me to gain no more than 20lbs!!! Shocked
That if I only get to 175, after I deliver, I should be back down to my present weight. ALso, it will help to not increase the amount of stretching due to my stretch marks being barely a year old.

He told me to continue walking and to not take in *any* calories past 6pm!!! Shocked what?!?!?!?!

::sigh::...I know it's possible. But it's can I do it???

He has my best interst in mind, and I respect/appreciate him for that. I just *know* how hungry a pregnant woman gets towards the end!!!

That doesn't sound right. Confused I mean he is your doctor, so by no means should you listen to me over him. But, I thought the gaol weight gain for someone who is starting at a healthy weight was 30-35 pounds? I could be wrong...but I thought you were suppose to gain 20-25 pounds if you are overweight to start with? You my dear are not over weight.

Good luck with that. I've gained probably about 50 pounds now. I was expecting my doctor to be commenting on my weight gain throughout my pregnancy, but she hasn't said a word about it. I've brought it up a few times because I was feeling so guilty about it, but she just keeps telling me it's fine. She tells me my blood pressure and blood sugar and all that stuff is good so I shouldn't worry too much about it. I've definitely never had a killer bod so I'm not that concerned about that. i guess if you have something to lose in that category then it's more of a concern. It would probably make it easier on you in the end to limit your weight gain now, but don't try too hard, remember that the priority right now isn't your figure but your baby's health. You're smart to be asking the doctor about it and i hope you do well!

Thanks ladies for all your replies!!!

I know that I shouldn't restrict calories, and I'm not. I eat 5 small meals a day, and walk in the afternoons to break a sweat.

My last Dr. that I saw when I was preg with .oni started repramanding me once I passed 25lbs. Then I continued to gain no less than 12lbs a month. I ruined my body because of my lack of control.

*I* wouldn't classify myself as "overweight", but I'm not at the weight I should be for my height. Which is 135-140. I'm 15lbs past the higher end of what my weight "should" be.

I thought it kind of extreeme when he said no calorie intake past 6pm. But then again, that's something that should be done on a regular basis, to control your weight.

I totally would *love* to gain no more than 25lbs. That would be *amazing*!! But would it be realistic?

Pregnancy causes me to get sooo unbelievably huuungry!! lmao!! I turn into a heiffer and eat *everything*!!!

personally, i wouldn't listen to him. so on average a woman will lose about 25 pounds after giving birth, why would he want you to only gain 20? technically that would be like you're *losing* weight while pregnant, if you get what i mean.

i learned a lesson from my last pregnancy (and i think you did too), i'm definitely not letting myself get so out of control with the next one.

i think you'll be fine, especially if you keep up with the walking. oh, and stay away from whole milk! i know that was your downfall with oni (mine was cheese and lots of it).

More power to you if you can limit your weight gain to 25 pounds (that's the least I would be comfortable with) That is my goal. But it won't happen. Nope. But, I hope you can do it!!

Do you have one of those pulse monitors to make sure it doesn't go to high while your walking?

lol .b!! HE said the same thing about the milk! He said "i don't care how much you want it, just say no!!! lol!"

I totally learned my lesson from my last pregnancy. ANd I want to do my best and only gain the "alloted" weight for a "normal" pregnancy.

Baron is suggesting if I do get hungry past 6/6.30, that I eat an apple, or banana, or some sort of fruit. Not a huge plate of noodles with cookies and milk! lmao!!

With .oni I cut all caffiene out of my diet. This time, I'm cutting out all cold drinks(sprite, coke, kool aid, etc...) I"m sure me chugging 3 sprites a day didn't help with my weight with the pregnancy either! lmao!

I see what you're sayin about the techinically losing weight. If I did gain only *20*, and lost 25, I'd be about 140/145. Which isn't a bad weight for me, I just want to have a healthy baby!!

Grrrr!! Thank .god I've got a couple months until the hunger really kicks in!!

Just a note about the milk thing. I know some people hate skim milk. I've heard that if you add a little skim milk powder to skim milk it makes it taste like whole milk without adding all the fat. I haven't tried it 'cause I hate whole milk. Just thought i'd mention it. And stay away from slurpees!!!

naah, I sure don't.

But I do know that with .oni I could barely walk a block without wanting to pass out.

But that's because I had tagged on 60 extra lbs! blah!

I don't know what my pulse *should* be being pregnant and walking. Like, I don't even know what it should be just walking without being pregnant! Laughing

I've done a lot of research (for myself) on nutrition. The only thing I would say about your doctor being unrealistic is the timing of the calories eaten.

Every study I have ever read says it does not matter what time you eat your calories. Calorie load is about calories in/calories out.

During pregnancy, despite what everyone thinks about eating for 2, you only need an extra 200-300 calories a day. Which is not even an entire order of .McD's fries. Read labels. Don't drink soda pop. Limit sugars. If you eat healthy, weight gain should not be a problem.

That all *sounds* easier than it is to live with every day. I recently gave up eating anything with high fructose corn syrup (other than bread, I cannot find bread without it!) and sugar. In 6 weeks I lost 15 lbs and 2 inches off my waist. Just from limiting my sugar intake.

My stretch marks from my first pregnancy were 13 years old and I didn't get any more. You shouldn't either, unless you get large than you did the first time.

Thanks for the info!

I'm guessing he doesn't want me starches or meats past 6. He's old. SO I'm guessing his theories are as well. Laughing

Since march, I've lost about 20lbs. And that's with minimal dieting, but frivilious walking.

I'm def going to stay away from as much sugar as *possible*. I've become a fruit junkie, so that would be my only down fall in that dept.! mreh!

I feel for you! My doctor seems to be okay with my weight gain but I think that I have gained too much. I am trying to buy fat free everything and not eat after 6 and I also started exercising. It's not helping though! I have still gained around 45 lbs. So annoying because I still have 10 weeks left.

doctors schmoctors, I swear sometimes the weight thing drives me nuts. I gained a total of 78 pounds with my first pregnancy and 67 with my second. A lot of it was water weight, so it really wasn't about what I was eating. There are some things we just have no control over. My weight came back off just fine, and I am back to 108 pounds (thankfully). I really wish the docs wouldn't focus so much on how much weight a pregnant woman gains. Just be reasonable with yourself and eat only when your'e hungry. How tall are you? Are you small-framed or large framed? This all plays in to what our ideal body weight is, and there is really quite a range. For my height at 5 feet tall, the American Medical association states that my "ideal" weight should be somewhere between 95 pounds 138 pounds, which is quite a range. I, too am not a doctor and I am not trying to trump his or her opinion, but Please don't be too hard on yourself about weight. Just try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

Fat free is not the way to go. They have to fill up the flavor the fat takes away. Read the labels. Often there are more calories in fat free products because they replace those fats with sugars for the flavor.

If an average person needs anywhere from 1,200 (for a sedentary life) to 1,800 calories (for a very active person) - another 200-300 calories added on is not very much. Read your labels. I cannot stress that enough. People are eating things without thinking.

I'm a label freak. Especially when it comes to .oni!

Now, I've got to read for me and .oni!! It should be something I do anyway, it just doesn't happen all the time.

I don't eat fat free..I just eat less of the regular.

I also find that eating slower helps me out tons! I nibble and it allows my stomach to relay to my brain, that it's full!

Yay! I am a label freak too.

I stopped letting snacky food anywhere near the computer or the couch. Because I find I will mindlessly eat if I have the food right there. Before I know it, I'll have eaten an entire bag of popcorn! Which is about 1/4 of the calories I should be eating a day! And, before I quit sugar, if I had an espresso too, I'd have been way over my calorie load for the day!

Did you know that one trip through the mcd's drive through is more calories than the average person should have in an entire day? It is no wonder our society is overweight!

Hmmm, maybe that is why I am still gaining like crazy. I eat small portions though so I don't see how I could be eating too many calories. I ate more before I got pregnant and I never gained weight. I wouldn't even think twice about eating fried food then but now I avoid it at all costs. I swear that my metabolism has slowed down.
