Q: Is Marijuana Addictive?

How often do you think marijuana can be used until it becomes a dependency?

Is dependency on cannabis any worse...or better than...pharmaceutical drugs?

i do not think marijuana is physically addictive.

i used to smoke pot every day for years. when i ran out and didn't have money to get more, i wouldn't freak out and i was able to go about my daily life until i had money for more. i didn't even freak out when i realized i no longer had access to it all together, i just thought "oh well". i didn't *need* it, i just *wanted* it.

i didn't go through withdrawals or become sick, though i might have been a little cranky for a few days.

marijuana is a plant that grows in nature. even if i wasn't pro-pot, i would much rather see someone smoking a joint than messing with pharmaceutical drugs.

okay here i go! i think (from seeing my friends do it) that it can be. WHen they don't have it, they're calling around asking someone if they have a joint or if they want to smoke so that they can have it, and they do it every single day sometimes more, and they pretty much plan their day around the pot. I think it's a waste of time personally, and it stinks... lol Razz

the only people that i've seen on it are the ones who do the other drugs, too, or if they haven't already tried others when they start pot, then they do. i know it's not that way with everyone but that's just what i've seen so far.

bleh i just don't want it around me lol

I vote no.

I don't think it is addictive. I don't know anyone that has gone through withdrawls.

However, I do believe it is habit forming. There is a difference between addiction and habit.

That's my opinion.

i dont have personal experiance but i think is just like any other drug, it *can* be addictive, but its not always

ive known people who have done acid and other harder drugs and they didnt have withdrawls when they stop

to me addictions all depend on your personality, my husband for example has a very addictive personality, he can start doing something as simple as playing a game then if he doesnt have it for a few days he gets moody and stuff, where i dont have an addictive personality at all (not trying to sound conceited or anything, but its true) i can drink and smoke (although ive never smoked cigarette or pot...i smoke pure flavored tobacco from a huka) and i can sstop any time i want, ive been on some really stong prescriptions and was just fine when i stopped etc

thats just my opinion though, i may be wrong who knows

terra, that's a very legitimate reason for not liking it. i don't blame you! i'd probably be very annoyed if i had friends who acted like that.

lol yeah, and i especially love it when they do it around me and want me to pass the joint for them, um no?

but it makes me feel good because they're always like "of course terra doesn't want it, shes the good kid" they always make comments like that that makes me proud of myself lol not that you shouldn't be proud of yourself if you've done it, but if you were like them i wouldn't beeeee.

im personally afraid to try stuff like that.

I voted no. I agree with .Bridget completely.

I smoked weed for years. One day .I didn't like the fact that .I was in a fog and .I quit. It was a lifestyle for me. It didn't effect my motivation. I worked full-time, went to college full time and graduated with honors.

I have seen people who do it and are not interested in doing anything else. I think if you really looked you would be shocked at the people who smoke pot.

I definitely think that certain people with addicitve personalities should use caution when smoking this. I can't smoke cigarettes. Not even one. Because then i will keep smoking and smoking and i won't be able to stop. I smoked for 15 years and quit once for 1 1/2 years. Then i had *just one*, and smoked for another 3 years. I have quit now again for almost 2 years, and I know I can't even have just a drag or it's all over for me. Alcohol and other things don't seem to bother me though. (Except for cofffe....I refuse to give that up! I deserve one or two vices! Laughing )

I know from experience that you can become psychologically on pot. But I don't think it should be unavailable for use by chronic sufferers of illness.

Jeez, I think anti-depressants are more dangerous than pot!
I agree 100% that pot is psychologicallt addicitive. In my experience and seeing others do it and how long they have done it,I have noticed those who get addicited have an addicitive type personality.I smoked pot for a few years ad stopped.I had a friend who smoked pot for 6-7 years and just stopped.I think that some people just really don't *want* to stop because they like the feeling or they are bored and it gives them something to do! I never in my life called around because I've had to do it btu I have had friends call around.I mean,it wasn't like they were super upset if they didn't get it, just dissapointed, lol.

I agree with Melissa; some people just dont want to stop because it's a ball.

I have smoked twice, both times to relieve my migraine headaches (hey, it worked!) but I have eaten it baked into brownies on average twice a week for the past three/four years. I don't think it's addictive for me, but I think it could be addictive for others, at the very least habit forming.

I've quit for awhile now though b/c it seems to have started having a negative effect. My blood pressure has dropped so low that I've passed out, I have complete laspses in memory, and I hate that "gotta eat" feeling.

All this hasn't made me a dummy though; just got my grades and I've got a 4.0 cummulative for my first year of graduate school. Laughing Sorry, had to brag a bit; just found out about it.

Oh boy, I totally can't do the brownie thing. I had one once and laid onmy brother's couch for about 36 hours. I think I drooled a bit for a while!

(edited to add:)
congrats on the GPA!

The dangers of mj usage is primarily linked to the act of smoking it. Eliminate the smoke, eliminate the harm.

*Unless you're an adolescent, in which case you have no business using psychotropic drugs, or drugs of any kind*

[thanks for the congrats on the gpa-I hope it stays that way through next year!]

NOTHING is addictive unless YOU make it addictive.
many people are addicted to video games. i play video games, but that doesn't mean I'm addicted to it.

Crack isn't addictive unless YOU make it addictive. The mind is an extremely powerful thing, believe or not, and even though crack affects the mind, addiction is for those with WEAK minds.

I wouldn't listen to a word Punt says. Cigarettes are addictive. So is crack, for sure. It's the nicotine in the case of cigarettes. And no, all addictions are not purely mental. Many of them are physical as well, and painfully so when the abusers go through withdraw.

I voted no for marijuanna, because to my knowledge it's habit forming yes, but not truly addictive in the mental or physical sense.
