Well.. I am five weeks prego and I have been looking up when the first ultrasound is supposed to be. Twins run in my family(dad, Grandma, cousins) and I want to know as soon as possible is I am going to have multiples… When is the first supposed to be? How early can they be done and be effective?

THANKS!

your first scan varies on where you live. in the uk we get scans at 12 weeks and 20 weeks. in some places in usa and canada you only gt a scan at 20 weeks.

you should ask your doctor what the precedure is where you are.

good luck and congratulations!

Re: When Is the First Ultrasound
Most doctors will give you your first ultrasound at about 8-10 wks. depending on you condition. I got mine at 6 wks. ( i miscarried 1 year ago) I told them I need to know. I'm 12 wks now , so far everything is good. They should be able to see if you are having multiples by at least 6 wks. Hope that helps!!

it really depends on your insurance.

i was only supposed to get one at 18 weeks but i ended up having complications and getting two more (1 at 37 weeks, 1 the night before my induction).

in the states, you'll most likely either get just one between 18-22 weeks or that one and an additional one around 12 weeks.

Yes I believe it's 12 weeks. But I think it's all different for diff doctors maybe. I got mine at my first obgyn appointment so that they could see about how far along I was, it was like 9 weeks. then, the doc scheduled me for one at 18 weeks. I have one coming up at 31 weeks to determine fetal size- something to do with the protein thing. let us know how you do!

I got mine at 11.3 weeks, but only because I was spotting. It varies with each doctor.
