I'm 18 and went to my doctor about 2 weeks ago and was prescribed Orth Tri-Cyclen Lo because I had irregular bleeding for over a month.

I waited until I got my bloodwork back to begin taking the pills and have taken five and I've been crying for about 2 days now. for no reason! It feels like I'm PMS-ing only worse. And on top of my mood I have this pain in the upper right section of my abdomen...it's not really my stomach. I know these are some of the regular side effects of birth control- but the white pills you take first apparently have the lowest dose of hormones, and if they effect me this much- what's gonna happen next!?!?

So my question is if the emotional/hormonal side effects are known to decrease or stop after your body becomes used to the pill?

Should I try another pill? Right now I'm not so much concerned with contraceptives but with a regular period. If anyone can help please let me know. Thank you!

Talk to your Gyno about this. Personally, I use Ortho-Tri-Cyclen-LO and I haven't had any emotional side-effects. All pills are different, but I have read that pills with higher hormones give less emotional Side effects. This could be the case with you since you were put on Low hormones, but every woman is different :]

Birth Control pills can give you a lighter, and regular period if you take your pills correctly. As for the abdomen pain, I can't really tell you about it. You should talk to your doctor about that one.

Side effects should go away in three months. If they don't, you should switch to something else. If you can't stand it to wait it out, switch earlier!
