Hello,
I am 35.
I had an operation to strip the varicose veins of the left leg (calf) when I was 12 and again at 16.
I had it done again about 8 weeks ago.
The procedure this time seems to me to have been much better - maybe the NHS has moved on since I was 16!
I used to run 4 miles 3 times a week (right up until a week or so before the recent operation).
When I asked the nurse when I could start running again, she told me "never". I was very shocked and she just said that running isn't paticularly good for your ankles, legs, knees, hips, shins etc (which I know) and it would not be a good idea to continue with it after the operation.
The thing is, I am missing it a lot and also putting weight on (9 pounds gained since the operation....).
Does anyone have experience? I would really appreciate some advice on whether I can safely run again. Sitting on an exercise bike just doesn't do it for me!
Thanks in advance.
Duncan
