I'm So Worried... Could I Be Preg?
Posted: 06-10-07 14:36pm

I'm 16... I've been dating my boyfriend a year and a half and we've been sexually active since August. We ALWAYS use condoms with spermacide and nothing has ever broken/slipped off. But this month we've done it more times than ever, about 5 or maybe 6 times. There was one time this month where he put his penis inside me without a condom, but it was only one thrust and I dont think there was any residual sperm on him. But my breasts have been very tender and my areolas look bigger to me (but I might be just imagining it). I've also been getting pretty frequent headaches but that also might have to do with my extreme allergy to pollen. I don't expect my period for another few days. I'm going crazy, I live with my grandparents who still think im a virgin and aren't very open with talking to me about sex. They sleep in two seperate bedrooms and think sex is wrong. I don't want to talk to my boyfriend about it yet because I don't want to freak him out if nothing is wrong. I really don't know what to do... What do you think my chances of being pregnant are?

I think the chances are pretty low. There's always a chance, of course, but I don't think it's a high chance. However, be sure to always, always use condoms or birth control pills because letting him stick it in there even for just a little bit is risky without condoms or some type of birth control.

Your symptoms don't really tell much. It could be pregnancy...or it could be PMS. A lot of early pregnancy symptoms mimic PMS symptoms. All you can do is wait until your period is late and then test. However, do keep in mind that stress (such as worrying that you're pregnant), illness, change in diet or exercise can delay ovulation...when ovulation is delayed, your period is late. Test once your period is late. If that test is negative and your period still doesn't show, test again in another week. If you still have a negative test and no period, go to Planned Parenthood and get a blood test done to determine what is going on...but I really don't think you have anything to worry about.

You could be, but don't freak out! Just wait until you expect your period and then test if you miss it, that's all you can do! Just next time, be safe ok? I understand you not wanting to tell your boyfriend so that he doesn't worry, that's what I did too, and in the end it was nothing. Please keep us updated Smile

Oh thank you so much! I think I just needed some reassurance. And I feel like a complete fool for letting him inside me without any protection... definately won't happen again!
Any ideas on how to bring up the subject of birth controll pills with my extremely strict grandparents?

You don't have to. Go to planned parenthood. if you're a student of any kind, you can get a pap smear (which you need now that you are having sex) and pills for free.

But I think I want them to know, it's not something I really want to hide, and I think it would be difficult to hide taking the pill every day. I just don't know how to really start a conversation with my grandma...

You can always tell her that you want them to help regulate your period or to help with pms or cramping.

If you want her to know the truth, then you just have to say it. "grandma, me and ___ want to be intimate, but I want to be careful. I want to go on birth control so that we don't get pregnant" and see how she handles it.

good luck!

Got my period today!
Such a relief, but such a pain in the butt.

Also, talked a little to my grandma about going on the pill for the hiking trip im doing for a month out west... I said I didn't want to get my period there (which is very true)...
