On Friday, 6/8 I had a 5mm kidney stone removed from my ureter. The surgeon used a stent for the procedure. I was informed that a string would protrude from my urethra and be used to pull out the stent a week later. When I returned home I could find no sign of the string. Late saturday I began to experience pain in the kidney area similar to the pain I had prior to removal of the stone. The pain was accompanied by a pressure sensation in the groin area and below my rib cage. It is now Sunday morning. The kidney area pain has subsided but my urine this morning was a very dark brown color. I am wondering if urine is continuing to back-up thus causing the feeling of pressure. I am also concerned that the dark urine is caused by bleeding somewhere. My doctor is a sole practitioner and on vacation 'till next Friday. Any information on this condition would be appreciated.

I have had many stents in my kidney over the years. Every year from 1999 to 2005. The string is in the bladder in my case anyway. You can't see it but it is there so that the surgeon can remove the stent when it is ready to come out. For me, it was usually a same day procedure. They give you sedation and remove the stent then send you home. Sometimes there is a little bleeding. I hope you feel better soon. I know it is not the most comfortable feeling. Take care.
