Sad Can anyone tell me if being on blood thinners and having a ruptured ovarian cyst is bad or possibly life threatening? I also found out that I am anemic so does that mean that I am bleeding internally? HELP please because I am in alot of pain on my left side for about 5 days and I had a positive CT scan for a ruptured ovarian cyst.

I think you need to call back your doctor and tell him these concerns; it definitely doesn't sound like a healthy idea to be on blood thinners right now.

Ovarian Cysts
I have to be on blood thinners because I have a clotting disorder so, it is kid of a no win situation. However, do you know how they treat these cysts once they have ruptured?

You said you had a positive ultrasound for a ruptured ovarian cyst?? Is the doc that you saw for that aware of the fact that you are on blood thinners? If so..I believe he would have told you or taken some action (such as admitted you to hosp) if there would be any concern as far as bleeding went. Being anemic dosen't mean that your bleeding internally. It just means that your iron levels are low. This causes easily bruising. I hope you find the info your looking for and good luck.

Ohh by the way, how long ago was your ultrasound and was the ruptured cyst on the side your having pain?

They did not do an ultrasound, they did a Ct scan 2 days ago. But the problem is now I am bleeding and hurting , but I am wondering if this could just be my cycle or something more serious because I am still in pain.I am just pretty miserable. Thank you for your concern. I am going to put another call into my doc tonight.

Ok. Did they tell you how big the ruptured cyst was? Or if it was clear fluid or blood?

Honestly, the blood thinnners shouldn't be a problem unless the cyst was quite large. I had an ovarian cyst rupture earlier this month. I am fine to continue taking my blood thinners (I was told by my doctor, your doctor is the only person that can give you an answer as to weather or not it is acceptable for you) I have had three rupture in my life time. The most painful part is when they rupture. It will take a few days for your body to absorb the fluid, then you will feel significantly better. Your doctor may call in some pain meds for you in the meantime.

You should, however, whatch for signs of infection. Such as a fever or being sick on your stomach.

The only way to treat ovarian cysts are with birth control. (had it not ruptured) Birth control can help reduce the size of a cyst. (now that ist has ruptured) Birth control is also the only way to treat reoccuring cysts. So, as soon as you start your next cycle your doctor should be putting you on the pill to help this from happening agian.
