My OB/Gyn Just prescribed Yaz to me for adult acne. He knows I have been on birth control before...having bad headaches and weight gain I am still getting rid off. My last BC being the Depo Shot, which (not totally sure if related) I developed a cyst on my right ovary. (Ovary had to be removed) Since then I have NOT been on BC.
My Mom told me she couldn't take BC either....I know BC has changed but I need to know if this YAZ is different......Anybody wanna share???

Much undecided, BrandyWine Confused

each type of BC pill is unique, they have different types of hormones, and different dosages.

Depo causes most women to gain weight, and Yaz and Yasmin are known to not cause weight gain in women that use it.

Those two pills have a new type of progestin hormone, which is supposed to help with weight gain issues.

Definately try it, because you do not know how you will react until you use it for a month.

well i was prescribed YAZ last july. i absolutely love it! i have experienced no side effects or weight gain at all. it has also cleared up my acne & my skin is like porcelain. i used to have acne on my face & back. it took a few months for all the breakouts to clear, but now i'm good! of course i get the occasional spot here or there when aunt flo visits but it's nothing compared to what i used to have.

best wishes *

Re: Yaz Side Effects
I was on YAZ for 3 months in late 2006. I was crying ALL THE TIME. Literally, if I dropped something on the floor --I would cry. Now I lean towards being an emotional person and even my mother, who knows me, loves me and understands me finally said one day "WHAT is WRONG WITH YOU? THIS is NOT YOU." I switched to Microgestin 1.5 Fe and it went away.

I do know the copay from my insurance was significantly higher for Yaz.

I did not gain weight on YAZ, however, I have experienced a 5lb increase on Microgestin-- but then I did eat my fair share of cream cheese cookies this winter, so the jury is still out on that one. Smile

my 30 yr old daughter was put on Yaz in may -- she was into her second pack when her gyn took her off due to migraines. She was put on due to Polycystic ovary and to balance hormones. that evening she was rushed to hospital due to extreme pain in left lung, couldn't take complete breath and a cat scan showed multiple blood clots in both lungs.........CAUSED BY YAZ

her mood swings had become severe, she had migranes, cried at everything, depressed and now know it was the pill

SO BEWARE -- these pills cause more side effects that could be deadly

DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS FROM YAZ - LAWSUIT?
My name is Alex and I am 20 years old. I was on Loestrin 24 for 2.5 years with no serious health problems except that I lost my period. My gyno switched me to yaz and within a month of taking it I developed a pulmonary embolism, which is a blood clot in my lung. I was hospitalized for a week and have to be on blood thinners for atleast 6 months. I am trying to compile a list of women to start a class action lawsuit against Bayer Healthcare, which manufactures both Yaz and Yasmin. I have worked at a well respected personal injury law office for the past two years and I know an excellent attorney willing to take on a lawsuit of this magnitude. Class action lawsuits require many many plaintiffs to be effective and heard in a court room. There are thousands of women who have has serious health problems from yaz including blood clots, seizures, strokes, depression, suicidal tendencies, brain damage, lifelong vitamin deficiency, death, and the list goes on. If you have had any serious health consequence due to yaz or yasmin please done hesitate to email me at *email removed for security purpose. to contact this user please use our private messaging system* if you are interested in being part of a class action lawsuit. Those who have been injured deserve compensation and there should be adequate warning about these side effects. If you look on their main website, none of the side effects I listed above are on that page. Please email me at the above address with your name and an email address I can reach you at. Thus far between 25 and 30 women have emailed me and I am looking for atleast 50 before I take the list to the lawyer. I hope all are in good health!

Yaz Side Effects
Hi my name is Leslie and until 6-26-08 had been taking YAZ for 1 year to date, I had taken other brands since my 30's to regulate my hormones without any side effects to me. YAZ was recommended to me by my OBGYN because of a Polycystic ovary and to balance my hormons. (I didn't like my moodiness) It worked, I loved the fact that is cleared up my skin, minimized the pre menstrual pains and my hormones didn't rage. I would say by my 3rd month of taking YAZ I started to get pains in both my legs but I didn't relate it to the pills because I never had problems with birth control before. The leg pains came back but did not disapper early June, then I started to be short of breath when walking, thinking it was allergies. I made a docters appointment because of my leg pain and the same day they orderd a ultasound of my legs and found the blood clot. Being admitted to the hospital that day and being questioned about my breathing they ordered a PTI scan and found a clot in each of my lungs. I had developed a pulmonary embolism. They tell me blood thinners for life because clots tend to come back.

The only medications I was taking was YAZ.

DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS FROM YAZ - LAWSUIT?
Posted: 07-02-08 19:20pm

apopa-

i tried to email you but looks like the site took your email down. i too was diagnosed with a bilateral pulmonary embolism just last Sunday and they presume it was a result of my using Yaz- started taking it in Feb. '08. while i was in the hospital my doctor told me he had 12 other girls, all under 35, non-smokers, active (not overweight), all on Yaz who were admitted within one week for clots in their lungs. 12 girls in one week, at one hospital! i was shocked and don't understand how this drug could still be on the market. i can give you further details as needed and would love to be put on the list for a class-action if you are able to get enough people. i am 31 years old and in extremly good shape- have run multiple marathons and never smoked so the doctor's were all stunned that i developed the clots in the first place. i also talked to a friend from college who knew another girl- same situtation- so there are a bunch of people out there. let's hope we can find them all and make other girls aware just how dangerous Yaz really is.

friend was on depo shot...gained alot of weight..i'm unsure however if it's due to her diet(which is horrible by the way but she used to excercise however after high school stopped...which could be due to the weight gain)or the shot but...i am on yaz...this is the only pill i have been prescribed since first going to the gyno...first 2-3 months experience severe symptoms..(random dizzyspells, bad headaches, spotting during the first month) and swore if it didn't stop by month 3 i would demand to be taken off of it...sure enough after the 3rd pack symptoms subsided and i'm very happy with this pill..i've been on it for a year now..only birth control pill i've been on and i saw no weight gain side effects or mood swings..maybe some breast growth though..but not much...went from C to very full C...MAYBE D..haven't tried any bras but I'm thinkin about it since going on the pill...good luck!

Yaz Birth Control Pills
I took YAZ for 1 month and developed bilateral pulmanary emboli. I had 11 in my left lung and 10 in my right lung. I am 40 years old, don't smoke, and run 5 miles a day. I am now taking warfarin blood thinner and will have to take it for another 3-6 months. I cannot run or overexert myself as long as I am on the warfarin. Just an FYI for those of you thinking about taking YAZ.

it does say that chances of blood clots are greater for women who smoke and/or are over the age of 35...so it is a bigger risk if you're older

OMG
okay everyone in here has me spazing out lol. I have been on yaz since dec or january. I have tried different pills. The worse for me was yasmin gave me terrible migranes. yaz hasn't really been bad for me. Spotting if I forget a day. okay understandable. I do have PMDD. It has worked for me. Though my best friend hated it she cried felt dpressed all the time. There is really nothing that stands out for me that is bad w/ yaz. Is there anything I should look for? (ie signs of a blood clot)... Rolling Eyes

Actually, in the commercial it states that women over 35 shouldn't smoke while on Yaz as there is a higher risk of blood clots if you do. Physicians are being urged to prescribe Yaz for all kinds of peri-menopausal symptoms. It's being marketed as a wonder-pill for young women and older women as well.

Believe me, I've been all over the internet (after having a PE last November due to Yaz). There are all ages of women having life-threatening problems. I've never smoked in my life and I'll bet I'm in better shape than many of you younger gals. I may be 42 but I'm an avid athlete (competitive swimmer and runner) with no risk factors other than my age. This stuff appears to be really bad news...

Right now it's Sunday, August 10, and I've been on Yaz for exactly a week. It's changed me into a completely different person, I've been crying all week over nothing. I haven't felt like myself since last Sunday, and tonight my boyfriend and I almost broke up because he said I was acting like a psycho and it was driving him away and creeping him out. Luckily I'm going to the doctor on Tuesday, so I'm hoping she can prescribe me another brand of pill.
Does anyone know if it's normal to start feeling negative side effects after only a week?????
This is terrible. Ugh.

I am a very active 23 year old that is in very good health, I have been on a couple different birth control pills over the years and kept gaining weight and becoming very moody so my dr put me on Yaz in March....June 8th I was put in the hospital because I had a mini stroke that was caused by the birth control they suspect. I tell everyone I know about this happening to me so it wont happen to more women.

Unfortunately for people "googling" side effects or whatever when it comes to BC or anything else for that matter, only the bad stories seem to surface in the results. That's because those who have the good experiences don't feel the need to tell anyone.

I was on Yaz for 11 months. And I dearly loved it. The only problem I had was that I often forgot to take it. It cleared up any acne I had, regulated my periods down to the half hour, and actually seemed to calm my emotions quite a bit. I just turned 19 (about 3 hours ago!), don't smoke, extremely physically active -- in case that information helps.

i have had no symptoms or side effects after three months (which it says side effects dissappear after 3 months) of taking this pill..i absolutely love it...i dont feel moody at all and i've had no weight gain..i dont even feel like i'm on the pill..so i really think it depends on the person....i've been on it for over a year now and was really nervous about starting the pill since this is the first i was prescribed...i wouldn't switch pills i've had no issues with this stuff

Well, that's great. That doesn't mean Yaz isn't riskier than other BCP's. The fact that there are two women on this thread alone who have had pulmonary emboli on Yaz without ANY other risk factors besides being over 35 says a lot to me. One woman on this thread (of no more than 20 messages) is 20 and had an embolism. If two very athletic, thin, non-smoking, non-hereditarily thrombotic 40 year old women (along with apopa at 20) aren't prime candidates for Yaz, I don't know who is.

I know you want to feel safe so discount our experiences if you must. Just know that there is a risk. Be aware of anything resembling a DVT or PE.
