Q: Irregular menstrual blood & bleeding + Pregnancy + Laparosc
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 9th, 2007
Hi, i went on holiday on the 1st of may, i was due to stop my contraceptive pill on that day and due to the fact i didnt want a period on holiday i decided to take another set of pills back to back. However, i missed a pill one night (approx 7th may) but continuted properly the next day, however i started to bleed so i stopped taking the pack and had a period. Everything was fine until on the 24th of may i had a laporoscapy, i havent stopped bleeding since! Is there a chance i could be pregnant?

Contraceptive pills can delay a normal menstrual period but there is always a risk of developing unwanted, unpredictable and irregular bleeding. it seems that you've succeeded in delaying the period and experiencing irregular bleeding at the same time.

It's difficult to explain the bleeding after the laparoscopic procedure without more information. A laparoscopic procedure by itself can’t be the reason for any vaginal bleeding. It seems likely that there is something else causing the bleeding. Pregnancy is not a usual reason for irregular vaginal bleeding. Further, irregular vaginal bleeding is not a common sign of any kind of pregnancy. Nonetheless, you can take a home pregnancy test to exclude pregnancy. Then, you can visit a gynecologist for an examination.
