Q: What Is Wrong?
asked by: insurancegirl on February 28th, 2004

Me and my hubby only have 4 sets of pics together. Does this mean we are doomed? Why won't he take pics with me. Our first one was taken when we were together about a mo, when my cuz snuck a shot. Our 2nd was taken when we were together about 2 mo at the mall when he suggested we get it taken in one of the booths. The third was the set of wedding pics (we had been together about a yr). And the fourth is a family photo that was taken as a christmas gift for his mother. However, it is not just a fam pic of us, it also includes pics of his brother, his son's mom, and his son (at this time we had been together for about 2 yrs and 5 mo). Why won't he get pictures taken with me? Is there something wrong? Am I not good enough for him?

Btw, we've been together for 5 1/2 yrs...Married for 4 1/2.

Confused Jennifer Crying or Very sad

I Know How You Feel
My husband doesn't do pictures wither. We have a couple together and those were without him knowing it. Hes done maybe 2 or three willing. The reason why he doesn't like pictures is becaues of his childhood. He had a pretty bad upbringing and all of it was caught in pictures. So he destroyed all of his childhood pictures that he found and usually refuses to take any now, with the exception of one here or there with our kids. Does he tell you why he wont take pictures with you?

Interesting
My first question after reading this was...."huh, why was the mother of his child included in a family picture after he'd been with you for 2 years?"
there are many reasons behind people not wanting their picture taken..Poor self image at present, unhappy childhood as was previously mentioned but the fact that it was his idea to have the pictures taken in the photo booth tells me that none of these apply. It doesn't have to be a serious problem you know...It could just simply be...One of those things...However...Pictures...Together...R epresent solidity and permanence. Like with the other woman's husband. His childhood was miserable and caught on film. It's my suspicion that by tearing up the pictures...He was somehow erasing some of his childhood from existence. It was an act of finality...The pictures were destroyed=no unhappy childhood. The memories captured in those pictures could never be brought back or relived once they were destroyed. Now, is your hunny reluctant to have pictures taken with you as in...The opportunity comes and ha makes excuses? Or is it just something you guys never quite get around to but you're letting your imagination get the best of you. Somewhere...I think the issue of the other woman should be broached. That's unusual...That he would include her in a family portrait with you....This doesn't sound quite right and the next question I would ask is...How many pictures are there of them in comparison to how many there are of the two of you. The answer to that question could really shed some light on your dilemma.

I was just thinking the same thing heather just asked!!! How odd to have his ex in your family photo...Maybe i'm old fashioned or whatever...But there is no way I would tolerate that.
My ex boyfriend was always doing crap like that with his ex...Going to breakfast, wanting to include her in "family" things, because they had kids together...We broke up and I discovered he still wants her...He is so excited her new marriage is failing
i'm not saying thats the case with you at all, I just think its very very strange.

Heather could very well have hit on the reason perfectly.

Personally, I am totally in love with my wife and we dont have many pics either. I hate getting pictures done. I feel like I look like a goon with a fake smile on all the time.

Thankfully she doesnt take it persnally because I just really dont get into looking at pictures and I hate taking them. This has no bearing on my feelings for my spouse though!
