Q: Exercises While Wearing a Splint? I Have Facial Spasms

I recently got a splint in for my TMJ, I can see how it is re-shaping my bite to cure the TMJ problems. Having TMJ has done a lot of bad for my facial movements, jaw movements, etc. Now that I am experiencing less pain than I have in a long time I can make movements with my jaw and face that I haven't been able to do. However, I am having sort of facial spasms and its awkward for me now just having the splint off (I wear it 24 x 7 so I just take it off to eat).

I am wondering if anyone knows of rehabilitation exercises that I can do while I have the splint, I want to re-train my facial muscles to work properly now that I am finally starting to get rid of the pain and over time my bite will be corrected by the splint.

Hey
Some simple exercises simply open as wide as you can and hold for 5 seconds. you can push a little (gently!) with your finger to increase range of motion. you can also do this laterally. you can also massage the muscles as well.

Hey
also since you have muscle spasms you may want to find a neuromuscular dentist. that is telling me that part of your problem is mucsular. massage those muscles as much as possible---but dont push too hard---you dont want to hurt the joint.
