Q: Advice About 2 Year Olds

I need some advice from you experienced moms. I have a 2 and a half year old coming over for the day tomorrow. It'll just be me and him. He is my boyfriend's nephew. He tends to be a little shy sometimes so I'm really worried that he's gonna make strange with me. I need some ideas on what I can do with him during the day to keep him entertained. I've babysat kids before but they usually know me and also, it's been a while so I'm a little nervous. I just found out about this a couple of minutes ago. I'm supposed to be taking it easy, but I might take him to the park a few blocks away to swing and stuff. I can draw and paint with him. I'm sure he will have some toys and movies with him. I'm just really worried about keeping him busy because my house isn't very kid friendly and my babysitting skills with little ones like this are a bit rusty. Any suggestions would be great!

My favorite age 2 activity is water painting (esp when it's hot). Get a bucket of water and some fat paintbrushes. Then let him paint outside on the concrete. No mess! The park is a great idea. Can you ask his parents what some of his favorites are?

i like coloring, my sons almost 2, he loves to run around specially outside, so taking him outside is a good idea, maybe after a lil while he will be more open to u . Shy kids are hard. So he may just be content with a coloring book and crayons depends, my sons crazy and is all over the place. how long are you babysitting him for? like all day?

Oh well the day is more than half over and I guess I had nothing to worry about. I didn't realise how much tv kids watch these days. I managed to drag him to the store for a treat then to the park for a while though. He has been watching a go diego go dvd over and over again all day. I put out his cars and mat and made a fort with him under the table. Now he is watching his dvd again and eating lunch. He hasn't been scared of me at all. he was talking a mile a minute as soon as his dad left. Thanks for the tips ladies!

Oh yeah, I really wanted to try the water paints thing that was a great idea, but they didn't have anything at the store down the street and I don't have the right kind of paints here at home. If I wasn't so big and preggers, I would walk to the bigger store and get some but I'll keep it in mind for next time.

Actually I just do it with water, no paint! It makes great marks on the concrete, and then disappears when it dries.
