Q: Why must I take Laxatives before Colonoscopy ?

Recently had a colonoscopy, doctor commented on excessive laxative use. However, I Never take laxatives. Never have a problem with constipation and do not take laxatives. What else could cause this?

Laxatives are requested before a colonoscopy is performed because the large intestines need to be completely clean. Beside laxatives, a special diet is also requested for the same reason. If the large intestines contain stools the colonoscopy won't be performed well.
