Hi everyone. Thanks for your comments.

Long story short: I've been dating a new girlfriend for about 2 months. We've been having unprotected sex (foolish i know). Last week funny she developed some sort of rash/infections. She had it immediately checked out and she was diagnosed with having HSV. The genital kind. Of course we were concerned as this was her first ever outbreak. I was convinced that I gave it to her?! So I went for a test as well. According to the doctors at the walk in clinic I'm clean. I haven’t been showing any physical signs of HSV either so I wasn’t that surprised. I was a bit disappointed with the test as the clinic could give me an conclusive answer whether I have the virus in my system or not. They recommended that I have some kind of expensive test done if I really wanna know, but as far as physical signs go, I don’t have it. (of course I had all the other blood/urine test done as they seemed more worried about testing me for HIV etc.)

My girlfriend is recovering fine, but what I would like to know is...

1.) Could I have passed on the virus without showing any symptoms? (semen, saliva, blood?)

2.) Should I try and get and conclusive answer as I'm worried that I have the virus and will pass it onto other?

3.) Once my girlfriends episode has cleared up, should I be worried about getting the virus from her? (assuming I wasn’t the carrier in the first instant)

4.) If neither of us show any physical signs of an outbreak can we have unprotected sex without worrying of giving the virus to each other? (no condom are a preference of us both)

Thanks for you time
Johnny

Yes you can. There are 90% of americans who have HSV and do not show any signs or symptoms. Some people do not have any systoms and are just carriers for the virus. Other do not have outbreaks until 6mon to a couple of year after infection.

2.) should I try and get and conclusive answer as i'm worried that I have the virus and will pass it onto other?

I would get all of the necessary tests done, so you can know for sure. I tested neg on a culture and later I tested pos through a special kind of blood test.

She can pass it on at any time. 70% of people got hepes from theor partners when their partner had no signs or symptoms. You can pass it at any time.

No not really, there is still the chance of passing it on. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex for a whole year and he never got it. But 14 months later he tested positive. So its never a sure thing.
