I went for x-rays and the like . Have severe spasms in the left leg and back pain in lower back. I have a physical job and am having a difficult time. I was told I have a sciatic nerve problem and herniated disc. I had the most excruciating thing done yesterday. It was called a epidural nerve block. Horrible !!!! What next? I am stilll in pain. Any suggestions??

opal faye....I am also from Indiana and have had several nerve blocks done and none worked. I have also had facet nerve blocks and steroid injections between discs and nothing has worked so far.

I have been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and just stopped taking heavyweight pain meds (norco, morphine, oxycontin) because they were causing depression.

Now that I have kicked the meds, I am trying acupuncture and massage. Spinal fusion surgery was not practical for me so I have to manage my pain. For your bulging disc, I think they can help you but I am not sure about sciatica.

Anyway, if you want to etalk just reply. Good luck!

I have deg disc disease myself...

Had one epidural done, they went to do the branch blocks and another epidural...

They arent fun, and the first one didnt work, I dont think the next ones will either and therefore dont really wanna get them done but my next option is surgery which I dont want neither. I just want the pain to go away...

Sad

JALK....Sorry to hear about your ddd and the failure of the epidurals to work. I am one person who knows what you are going through.

I have heard about spinal stretching, which increases space between your discs and eases the pressure on the nerves. I have not tried it yet but thought I would give you a headsup.

I also took a discogram last year to see which of my discs were involved so that I could undergo spinal fusion surgery. Unfortunately, the discogram showed that the discs involved were in this order (bad-good-bad) and the surgeon told me that the fusion wouldn't hold three discs in place.

By the way, the discogram was the most painful procedure I have ever had and that includes being shot during war, four major operations, kidney stones and various broken bones.

So, I am now practicing pain management and trying different approaches. I just hope I don't have to go back on pain meds.

Good luck, I hope you find some relief and, if you want to email me with questions, I will send you my email address.
