Group B Strep.....

The doctor said that I am positive for
group b strep. She said it's quite common
and I shouldn't worry too much about it.
She just said that they would give me
antibiotics during labor to keep me from
passing it on to josh. I'm just
wondering.....Does anyone else have/had
this? Does anyone know if it's permanent?
I know it's just a bacteria but i'm just
wondering if it will go away or not. She
said it's not sexually transmittable or
nuthin but i'm just curious. Thanks.

I got that too! My doc told me about it
at my second prenatal visit after my paps
and I got really scared and she told me
the exact same thing. She said a lot of
women have it (i cant remember the
percentage now) but I was scared it was
gona hurt my baby or something but she
said its nothing to worry about and it
comes and goes... Its not an sti or std
she said its just a bacteria that some
women get (it cannot be transmitted she
said) but I dont know too much else about
it??? Lol

I have it. I dont know much about it but
I know your baby can get an infection if
you have him natural without any
antibiotics.

I don't know anything about it, except
that my cousin had it when she was preggy
and she delivered a healthy *big* baby
boy. No problems for her or the baby!
Don't stress sweetie!
Love,
chanda

Hey, girl. I got it also. I had asked
people about it and they did not reallly
know alot. Pregnajordan looked up
something for me. It really helped.
Listen, I started out with a bladder
infection. I went back in for an
emergancy visit and they said I had a new
germ called group b strep. Me and my
mother both looked at each other like what
the heck!!! I said how did I get that?
She said it is just bacteria. I am like
you I thought it was also a std and she
laughed at me. She said hun you are
gonna be fine, its not an std. Only
problem was I am allergic to penicillan
and cant take that. She had to give me
keflex, 500mg 4 times a day. Then she
also told me I have to be put on a drip,
but make sure you tell them your allergic
to penicillan. Dont worry baby cant get
this. I was so relieved. That is why
you take the medicine and baby gets a
little, but when the time comes and they
put you on the drip, it keeps baby from
getting it at all.
Also did she tell you how severe your
case was? With me I got the lucky one it
is only in my urine. Also once you take
all your medicine it goes away, they just
dont want to chance anything when it is
time for the baby to come and meet you.
Lots of love,
heather

I got tested and I had it. It didnt seem
to make much of a difference, they just
pumped something into me so that my baby
boy wouldnt get it. And everything went
fine. Your straight!!

No heather she didn't tell me how severe
it was. But she said I have very very
very little to worry about. She said
hardly any babies are actually infected
after the antibiotics are given and even
fewer are seriously infected. So I guess
i'm good but you know I still worry! But
she said most likely mine isn't going away
b4 labor since im due march 21! But she
just told me not to worry that I would be
taken care of. By the way heather, did
you find out the sex of your baby???
