Severe Toothache
Posted: 06-05-07 00:49am

Hello. I am posting this at 1:52 AM on Tuesday June 5, 2007, and I am just wondering what I can do to try to suppress a horrible toothache I am having. I already went to the dentist and scheduled a root canal for next Tuesday, but the pain is so severe that I cannot even sleep. I currently have a paper towel with ice glued to my face, but that is only doing so much. I have Tylenol 3 that I got from the pharmacist, but it only works for about 20-30 minutes. The dentist believed there is inflammation that is causing this pain, and I am already on antibiotics for that. I'm just wondering if there's anything else I can do to ease the pain. Thanks.

I presume the dentist does not want to touch the tooth until the infection is under control?. If not and it is a scheduling conflict I would simply push the issue and get an urgent appointment.

If you need to wait until next week then all you can do is continue the antibiotics and consider getting a prescription pain killer from your Dentist / GP / MD to reduce the discomfort.

I have had more root canal treatments including underlying infections, than I care to recall so I can certainly emphasize with you.

Yeah, I believe you're right on the infection part. I already have prescription pain killers (Tylenol 3), but it's nearly useless. I also believe I have to wait because my dentist is in Poland right now. I don't know if the fill-in for him will be able to help me. I already saw him yesterday, and they had me scheduled for next Tuesday. I think I'll just have to tough it out. Thanks so much for your input.

I feel for you................tooth/gum pain for me at least is the worst kind of pain...............even worse than child birth(2 kids here):

*keep your mouth germ free, mouthwash, plain old Listerine helps.......and frequently

* warm salt water gives temporary relief

* pineapple has a natural enzyme in it.........bromelain that gives temporary relief too.........get it mushed up.........also gives you something to eat?!

*zinc helps repair the gums............I use the liquid form...........vitamin C works with it too

* after the antibiotics are done............use lacto sporogenes...........billions of natural bacteria............to make sure the infection is gone and doesn't reoccur

Most cities have emergency dental offices that are open 24hrs..........get out the phone no and address..............you may need it before Tues Smile
