Ok, so I am only 10 weeks & not really showing yet. I'm still just as insecure w/my belly flab as I was before I got pregnant. I hate, absolutely HATE when people touch my belly. And b/c strangers can't even tell that I'm pregnant, it's people I know. Which is worse to me, b/c I feel as if I can't be rude & slap them in the face. My mom-in-law & both sisters-in-laws are the worse. I can't stand it! Any suggestions how I can nicely get the point accross that I don't want to be touched?? I may change my mind once my belly is firm & bigger, but for now it just embarrases me & then angers me off!!! Evil or
Very Mad

Hmm just say you're not too comfotable with it becuae you're feeling sick or something maybe? I think i give off some kinda vibe which says 'don't touch me' because if someone reaches out to i just look at them and they stop, i think i have an evil look Laughing

I agree with D - just politely let them know that you don't want your belly rubbed or touched right now, and that maybe you'll be ok with it once the baby is bigger and there's something to actually feel!
I was (and still am) the same as you. I don't like anyone touching my belly except my Mom and my Husband! When people do it, I just ask them not to, or let them know that I don't like it!!!!!

Thanks ladies!! I think I'm going to try the evil look!! My inlaws keep catching me off guard so it's happening before I can even say anything. I also thought about reaching out & just touching theirs right back... What can they really say after they just touched mine, right? heehee

Try turning away from them or just putting your hands in front of your belly to show that you aren't comfortable being touched. I know what you're saying though. People just do it as a reflex or something and by the time you react it's already done. I find it annoying too even though it's totally obvious that I'm really pregnant now. I think I must give off those vibes though because I don't get it as much as I thought I would.

You know what the worst thing is though?? Having people ask you how far along you are and rubbing your tummy when you aren't even pregnant. That is the worst ever! Laughing It's happened to me more than once and I could have killed them. Turns out I had a big cyst that made me look a little preggo before I got pregnant and it's gone now, so maybe I won't have that problem anymore once I have my baby. Oy. Rolling Eyes

That's too funny. I've done that a couple times, once to a guy and the look on his face was priceless 'cause he has a beer belly. Laughing

Yeah, I'm shy too... I've never liked confrontation, so I have a hard time even asking nicely for ppl to not touch me. My hubby just suggested I should get one of those maternity shirts that say "DO NOT TOUCH ME"... but I don't guess I could get away with wearing it everyday. I'm just looking fwd to the firmer belly, then I won't mind as much... hopefully!

it got easier for me once i actually had a preggo belly. In my opinion the first trimester was the worst! I just felt fat and uncomfortable. At least when its firm you dont feel like people are poking your fat.

When i was pregnant with my daughter i was visiting someone in the hospital and the nurse reached over and put her hand on my belly, so i reached over and put my hand on hers, then asked her how she liked, it she was in shock and it was funny, i bet she wont touch another belly with out asking she was really embarrassed and apologized and everything.

i am still realy early only 6 weeks and I am not sure how I would feel about anyone poking my pudge right now. I just feel fat and bloated. I will have to keep the rubbing others bellies in return in mind.

Don't Touch
I found the best way is to literally wear a sign that says don't touch me. My mom sent me a website (www.donttouchmaternity.com) of maternity shirts that convey that message. I liked these shirts better than others than I have seen because they range from the nice "Thank you for not touching" to middle of the road, semi-sarcastic, to some really sarcastic ones. I think you would like the "Don't even think about it one"! LOL! I found that I got no unwanted touches when I wear these shirts and I think I might actually get through my pregnancy now without going to jail for breaking the hand of some person that rubbed my belly without permission.
