I just saw the following quote on the above website:

"There is no "cure" for HPV infection, although in most women the infection goes away on its own. The treatments provided are directed to the changes in the skin or mucous membrane caused by HPV infection, such as warts and pre-cancerous changes in the cervix".

I am somewhat confused. Do they mean the wart or the virus when they say that the 'infection' goes away on it's own??

.in some people the infection does go away on its own, but not in all people.

Yes, that is correct. I heard (in a University level sex class) and confirmed with my doctor that yes, in many cases the body actually rids itself of the virus (eventually). So, if you have genital warts and treat them it is possible to never have an outbreak again.

There is no test for the .H.P.V virus itself, however so even if you suspect your body has rid itself of the virus (no warts, no irregular cells on pap smear), it is still possible you still have it and can pass it on.
