Ok, this might be kind of long, so sorry for that. About a week after I found out I was pregnant I started having pain in my left ovary and in my left shoulder. I wasn't having any bleeding, but I was worried, so I went to the ER as I didn't have a Dr yet. They did a trans-vag ultrasound and found a large complex cyst on my left ovary, which they classified as a corpus luteum cyst. They didn't find a heartbeat at the time, but said it was early. I was also diagnose with a bladder infection and BV. That night I started bleeding heavy (like a period). Less than a week later I went to the Dr and they did another trans-vag ultrasound. By this time I had stopped bleeding and the Dr said it was probably the ultrasound along with the infection. They found a heartbeat this time! After all the bleeding I was so relieved! But then I started bleeding again that night. I figured it was just the ultrasound and tried not to worry. The Dr said that the pain was just the cyst and that it would go away at around 10 weeks. He put me on Metrogel for the BV. Well, I just finished the Metrogel last night. Throughout the treatment I had chunks of dark reddish brown stuff coming out that, on very close inspection, definatley was NOT clots. Now I'm having pain in the ovary again and the the stuff is coming out thinner and more of it. Still no clots. I'm wondering if it could be the cyst in the ovary causing the bleeding. Every time I've had the heavy bleeding I've also had the pain in the ovary. And with 3 ulrasounds showing a healthy, growing baby I just don't know when to worry. And I'm wondering if I should worry about the cyst rupturing. I've still got the pain in my shoulder on that side that I can't figure out. Sorry if this is a little jumbled. I've got so many worries and issues right now I feel like I'm going to explode! So ANY help would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

shoulder pain = get to the er!

ok now I got that out I'll explain.
shoulder tip pain is commonly a symptom of an ectopic pregnancy and should never be taken lightly.
If you go to the ER and they find that you are safe then that's good, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

corpus luteum does not cause bleeding.
the corpus luteum is the ruptured follicle that the egg came out of.
it produces progesterone which prevents bleeding.
If you have not conceived: as the corpus luteum dies off the progeterone drops and so you get your period.
If you have conceived the hcg prolongs the life of the corpus luteum which continues to produce progesterone and helps keep the pregnancy until the placenta is fully developed and takes over the hormone production.

hope that helps you some hun and good luck
