Q: Strange Problem ...

I don't know where to put this, so if a mod feels the need to move it, go ahead.

One night my heart rate increased and it worried me. Then, I got shakey, a bit lightheaded, short of breath a bit and some chest discomfort. I went to the ER, and they ran some tests. Everything came back normal. Although the nurse said there seemed to be "elevations" with my thyroid and something else, but the doctor didn't mention that and neither did the papers the hospital gave me so I don't know whether or not that is important. I was told to go see my doctor, so I did. He told me the signs seemed to point towards anxiety attacks, since everything else had come up clean at the hospital. He gave me some Xanex and although they do work after I take them, I can't help but wonder if this is really anxiety related. I still get one of the symptoms from time to time usually being rapid heart rate and chest discomfort. I'm 20 years, 6'6, and weigh around 330-350lbs. I'm gonna go on a diet soon and get back in shape though, because this was a kind of wake up call that told me I can't keep letting myself go like this. Can someone help me out here? Is it related to my poor fitness? Is it anxiety related? Thyroid? Or something else altogether?

I think it was just a case pf anxiety. I have heart palpitations and your mind can do funny things to you when you get scared. You heart beat increased and then the other symptoms followed.
You checked out fine so I would just keep an eye on it.. If it does it again the best thing to do is just stay calm ( I know easier said then done). After I found out I was not dying when I had the heart palpitations. I hardly ever get them anymore..

As you already said you need to get back into shape.. Try walking everyday even if it is only 5 minutes until you work your way back into shape.. You will feel better after even a short walk that you’re doing something for your heart!
Good luck.. Calm down.. You will be fine..

Well the only reason i'm not 100% sure it's anxiety is because....Errr....I dunno. But the Xanex DOES work, so I suppose it really is anxiety. I rarely get them, and when I do it's just one symptom now and it goes away with a Xanex or when I clear my mind of it and relax.

Anyway I am going to get back into good shape. 45 minute walks and dieting.

0.5MG. I only take them when I need them, and once the bottle goes dry i'll probably never take em anymore cause I really don't like pills very much.

I knew there was a reason I didn't think it was Anxiety attacks, I just remembered why. It's because for the last few days, i've had a constant pain in my chest.. Like every few minutes a small sting. Other than that, I have no reason to believe it isn't an anxiety attack.

Update: Well the small stings are almost entirely gone, now I rarely get them so by tomorrow I suspect they will be gone entirely. Man that's weird...

Update 2: After doing some research, i've concluded that I most likely have Benign Chest Wall pain. A harmless condition that affects young people and young adults usually. I believe this because I had tests done already and nothing was found, so there's no reason to believe it's anything serious. So it seems I had an anxiety attack, and then a week later this condition. Crazyness.

You can have chest pains as a result of anxiety too.

I will copy this topic to the anxiety/stress forum so that more people will be able to help you out Smile
