I'm 4 weeks out of total hip replacement surgery. My doctor is proactive and aggresive when it comes to pre-hab exercises and re-hab. I am 44 years old. I was told not to drive my sports car (too low) and a ton of other limitiations....... Is this forever or just for 3 months. Although the pain is much better, I'm scared and wondering if I will ever be able to make love (what is safe??), drive my car, put my shoes on, travel by air, etc. Also, any idea where I can find an outdoor chair (the kind you take to festivals) that have a hard bottom or can I sit in the regular one after 3 months???

no its not a good idea to be driving...im 17yo, and im going for a hip replacement in about 10weeks...and im not allowed to drive for 6-8weeks after the operation and try to not be a passenger, just because of the muscles and tendons and things like that are healing together again to from strength around the new hip. i found a good website that my doctor reccomended i look at, which is really helpful in what you can and cant do... its www.exeterhip.co.uk i hope that might help you in some way...you should be able to drive your car again, it justdepends on how you recover really, and putting shoes on...you have to be careful you dont twist too much and be in any shape that you could dislocate your hip, travelling by air should be okay, but im not sure, you will have to ask your doctor, and also id just like to say good luck with your recovery, and the info iv said i found on the internet or from my doctor, in reality you will really have to speak with your doctor, i hope this has helped a little

We now have Hip resurfacing instead of the total hip replacement therapy. Driving is not advised after undergoing surgery. you must maintain a certain position to prevent external rotation of the hip. You may use a pillow in between the legs.
