Hello peeps!

I have some questions. Please help!!

Yesterday at 6 am, I took a POA and it was BFP!! A clear thick red line, at the testing time. I checked again about ten minutes later, it was still positive. I then went to bed again and about 10 am when I looked at the test again, I saw that the positive line was gone .... I thought it could be the fact that I had very little pee and the test detected the hCG in that little bit of pee and then was gone.

So I took another test again this morning around the same time, this time using the Dip N' Test pack. I held the stick longer in the urine cup, ie 4 mins instead of just 2 mins as directed. The test result was negative. The thing is, when I took the test out of the package, I did not stick it immediately in the urine as I was confused which end should I dip, so I ended up holding the dipping part in my hand for a few short minutes. Would this have any effect?

Fyi, I ovulated on the 21/5 (cramps lower abdomen) and had unprotected sex on night 19/5. I ovulated late this time in my cycle. By right I should have had my period by the 31st of May (my last period was on 30th April and my cycle is normally 28 - 30 days). I believe I am currently having some symptoms of pregnancy ie nausea, metallic taste in my mouth, tiredness, late period, fluttering in the lower abdomen, slight swelling. I know I am pregnant!! But I am confused with the HPTs. My questions are :
1.Is it too early for me to have taken the HPTs, considering that it has only been two weeks since unprotected sex?
2. When should I take the test actually? DPO?
3. Why did I get a positive, which then disappeared?
4. Why did I get a negative today? Could a few minutes of exposing the test before dipping into the urine affect it?
5. Should I wait 3 days now before taking another test or do one by tomorrow morning?
6. Is the POAS considered more sensitive than a dip and tell?

I appreciate tremendously any input from all you ladies. I am making an appointment with my doc, but will only be able to see her week after next as she's on vacation and her calendar is full! So in the meantime, I am dying here....

I just know I am pregnant! My last pregnancy was 9 years ago, so this is really really my miracle baby! I am 38 and really really want this baby....

Some women can tell when they ovulated based on cramps & ovulation pain, but I never could. Unless you are tracking basal body temperatures, that is the only 100% way to know when you have ovulated, though if your fertile cervical mucus dried up and you tend to ovulate regularly then probably you did O.

As for the disappearing positive, I would just view that test as an error. I have heard of women having disappearing positives that later turned into BFPs, but I've also heard of them just going on to get AF in the end. It is also best to follow the instructions that come with the test and not dip too long--that can cause faulty results (namely false positives). Though I do have to say I have never had a dipstick test you dip THAT long--most of them you dip 5-10 seconds MAX and read the results in 3-5 minutes. Maybe you just have a different brand, but you need to follow the instructions and not overdip your test.

I don't think you tested too early. I would try testing again with a name brand test using FMU, preferably one that is an early results type test since those detect lower levels of HCG--First Response Early Result, Answer Early, even the new CBE digital (the one that says results 5 days sooner on the box) are all early results type tests. I actually had the best results with the new CBE digital, testing the day my period was due (14 DPO). I had a very faint maybe line on FRER, but there was no doubting the Pregnant reading on the digital.

If your period gets to be a week late and you don't have a positive test, see the doctor and get a blood test done. There are some women who take awhile to build HCG up in their urine and may not get a positive test for awhile.

Good luck! I hope you end up with good news!
