I was just wondering if you guys taught or are teaching your kids the proper names for their "private parts".. Growing up my mom always referred to mine as my "Pee bug" lol.. Reason .I'm asking is because .Kaylee is discovering that she has other body parts now & .I'm not sure whether to teach her that it's her vagina or tell her it's her bug? Confused

What do you guys do or are planning on doing?

hmm... i've never thought about it. i think it's fine to have a "cute" name for it as long as you also teach them the proper name too. i'm sure i'll call finn's penis a peepee or something but i'll also use the proper name too.

Thanks guys! I asked .Shane about it & he said he'd rather we taught her that it's her "bug" until she's a little older.. I never really thought of this until this past week because now when I take her diaper off her she pinches & grabs herself down there.. I think .I'll just do what you said .B, use the cutesy name but also teach her the proper name.

We call it "bits". When .Alyvia has a messy diaper and is wiggling around, I say something to the effect of "wait a second, .mommy needs to clean your bits!"

I actually thought of you the other day .Laura, because I remember you saying "girly bits"!

.Does anyone know how long this stage lasts where they grab themselves when they're nakey?

I hope it's over with soon lol.

Alyvia doesn't grab her bare crotch, but she loves to rake her fingers across her diaper. I don't know if it's the sound she likes or what, but it's odd. Laughing

I think you should allow her to. She might think it's wrong or dirty to touch herself if you tell her not to. But when she's old enough to understand, you can explain to her that it's not polite to do it in public or in front of other people.

i'd let her explore. if you try to keep her from touching herself she might think it's bad or something and we don't want to teach them to be ashamed of their bodies. i've heard it's very natural for toddlers to like to touch themselves and we should just explain that it's something they should do in private.

We don't pronounce it like you would. Down here we pronounce it a different way. Kinda like "pa-con", but not con, the 'on' is like the word "on". Get it?
That's what everyone here says. Also, if someone's being a wimp, we'd call them a pecan instead of a p*ssy. lol
Sorry, just trying to explain it. Things are different way down here.

Down here, it's like "puh-cohn". It's not "pee-can".

You know what's crazy? In college they taught us not to use cutesy names for that stuff, and to always use the real name for it, but I still can't help but call it a meemo because that's what my mom called it. But little ones are very normal if they are foolin around down there all the time. My daughter told me when she was 2 1/2 that her daddy had a tail and when she got older she was going to have one too. I just said that's not a tail, it's a penis. About that time my husband banned her from the bathroom when he was in there. Laughing
