Q: Health Plan For Parents Who Are 60

My father lost his job in his early fifties (also losing coverage.) After the termination he started his own business and until recently I didn't know that my parents had never bought a private plan. My father is now 61 and my mother is 57 and they still have no coverage. When I confronted them about this they said the only coverage they can get at their age cost $800-$900/month. I'd estimate my father's income to be 40-50k per year so I'm guessing they cannot qualify for any type of government plans, although I'm very unfamiliar with how this works. Can someone recommend what the most affordable options would be for their situation. (I'm more interested in a plan with a high deductible and lower payment - mainly to cover the big things.)

Thanks in advance,

M

Same Boat
Boy, was I grateful to read your post because I am in the same boat as your parents. Mutual of Omaha dropped my coverage (after 26 years and no claims) because they were no longer handling individual policies. So since December '04 I have no health insurance..........and it has made me a wreck. I tried getting a policy from several companies but was rejected because I have a pre-existing condition. I am in desperate need of help. Good luck with finding coverage for your parents. OOPS! I forgot to mention that I, too, am mainly interested in a high ($10,000) deductible. Dee

to Anyone Having Trouble Finding Health Insurance
For the two of you that posted above, I'd like to try and help you find health insurance that meets your needs. I've helped alot of people that had previously felt they had no other option. That being said, there are a few that I am unable to help find suitable coverage, and my heart goes out to them. However, regardless of pre-existings, I am willing to try if you are. I have alot of contacts with quite a few insurance companies through out Florida. Feel free to contact me if you'd like my help.

since there are no recent posts from either of you I am hoping you both found coverage. If so could you share your experience so others can find help?

If you haven't found coverage have you checked your state for a high risk insurance pool? Just a thought.
