I dont know if this is a really stupidly naive question or what - but if u have anal sex, wont your penis get covered in excrement?

Not necessarily. Unlike what you might think, the inside of the anus is not coated in feces. It's actually farily dry and clean in there. Also, many people who regularly have anal sex will clean out the anus beforehand, or use condoms.
