Quite embarassing really but it wasn't due
to weight gain it was due to growth. Now I
have these hideous stretchmarks on my
sides..can anyone tell me the average
amount of time it takes for stretchmarks
to disappear? or if they even disappear
that is? Feelin kinda cousious about
summer coming up lol

Once you have them, it's often for life.
Most people have them, so they're not
really anything to be ashamed of.

You pretty much have to buck up. Nearly
every woman who gives birth at any age
will get them too. Many overweight people
see them if they loose weight. It's just
how skin works.
Some women suggest palm butter. The only
surefire way to remove them is surgery,
which will remove all of the skin in an
affected area.

Being 18 has nothing to do with it.
You're not protected against stretch marks
just because you are still fairly young.
In fact, a lot of people, especially
girls, get stretch marks during puberty.
I have probably had mine since I was about
12 years old.

That does not mean you are exempt from the
problem.
Sure, girls might be a bit more prone to
stretch marks because their breasts and
hips can grow quickly, but boys have
growth spurts too, you know! Most, if not
all, of my male partners have had a couple
of stretch marks here and there.

Yep. Stretch marks appear perpindicular to
the direction of growth. SO on pregnant
bellies, you have a lot of vertical marks.
On my boyfriend, he had a growth spurt in
the vertical direction as a teen, and so
he has horizontal stretch marks on his
hips. He is not a big person, he's a bean
pole. I'm also skinny, so it's neither
size nor age nor gender that determines
whether or not you'll get stretch marks.

Stretch marks rarely ever go away. You're
right, you'll probably have them forever.

yup, most people get stretch marks
regardless of their gender or age. i have
them. everyone i know has them. my
boyfriend is tall and so has a lot of them
up his back. it's not gross at all. in
fact i like it cos it's just another one
of the imperfections that make him unique
and lovely! stretchmarks do not go away
but they fade. if yours are red, they
will most likely turn paler in a few
years. there are some lotions you can use
that are supposed to help reduce their
appearance. palmers cocoa butter is a
renowned one. olive oil is supposed to
have good properties for this too. the
shop 'lush' sells things like massage bars
that can help the marks fade. but you
might end up smellin' a bit girly
anyway, the point is they are very normal,
very very common, and there is no reason
you should feel embarrassed about them.

Ive found using Bio Oil has helped a LOT
after i lost a lot of weight during
puberty. I was 13 and lost about 2 stone
of puppy fat!!! Now i had bad stretch
marks. But using bio oil etc has helped
them to be much better and less
noticeable.

yes. forgot to mention this stuff. i have
used it before. i used it to try and fade
scars i have, however it didn't do
anything for me, and it is very expensive,
too.
