Q: Getting a Little Frustrated

I am frustrated. I am pretty qualified in my field and thought that finding a job would be no problem. There are a few school districts hiring part time positions in my field and I have interviewed for them. One of the school districts just emailed me and said that my recommendations were excellent but now they need to interview a few more people. It looks like many other people want part time, too. I think most of the other applicants are seasoned retired folks and I can't compete with those people as they have many years of experience over me and can kick my butt at job interviews.

So, my previous thread regarding which job should I take may not even be an issue anymore because I may not even get a job! We really do need some money coming in. Also, in my field, the longer you don't work the harder it is to get a job later. I know things will work out the way they are supposed to and if I don't get a job it could be the best thing. If that happens, I will get a paper route and/or watch a few kids full time.

Boise, ID has a lot of graduates coming out of BSU. The job market here is just so tight that I think they are also willing to take two to three day a week jobs. Another thing that maybe influencing employers decision to hire me is that I am very pregnant. I told them that I can start work when school starts but I am starting to wonder if just being pregnant scares them. I was hired at my last job while pregnant and didn't start work until three months after the school year started. The job market was not as tight there.

I should know about both jobs within a few days. In the meantime, I will continue to bite my nails and go through little anxiety attacks just waiting.

Sorry about all that. How stressfull!

Did they say when they would get back to you? Maybe they have a certian amount of people they have to interview and they are just trying to fill quota. I'll pray for you!

I didn't get the good paying job. I received a letter with a copied signature. The signature wasn't in ink!! It's not like even 20 people were applying for the job. At the interview, they did ask me a few times when I was due and I told them. I think this specific job would have been too stressful anyways. I can't help but think it's because I am pregnant. If that's the reason, I will never know because it's against the law to discriminate.

I was pretty secure about the other district until now. The email the director sent me was nice and he made sure I knew that a previous boss said good things about me. He then told me he had to interview a few other people. I can't help but think "defeat."

This is so depressing. I will prepare myself for the news that I didn't get the job. I will just go on with life as though I didn't get it. That way I will feel great if I do.

I can see your point about schools hiring older people because of their experience, but the psychologists .I have worked with in schools in my area I like the younger ones better. They think outside the box and are not as rigid in their thinking. Most younger ones are not so focused on the problems, but rather the solutions.

Good luck in your job search!

I hope everything turns out as you wish. Its hard dealing with that kind of stress when pregnant.

I'd like to say tho, that they have no right asking you anything about your pregnancy in an interview. Its none of their business and does not affect your ability to do the job properly. Next time they asked you should tell them that you don't feel thats an appropriate question to be asking and they have to drop it. If they factor in your being pregnant with your chance at getting the job you could fight against it.. I know you don't want that stress and that would probably be over reacting but I dealt with that kind of thing when I was pregnant and job searching to and I got all my advice on howto handle it from my lawyer.

Best of luck.
