I just attended a seminar by Suzanne Somers on bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. I would like to know more information and input from ladies who have tried it, if it works and the cost since it is not covered through insurance.

Bio-identical
I started taking the bio-identical hormones in February and I love them. I have more energy and it helps with some of the other symptoms like the mood swings and the hot flashes. I am on bi-est twice a day and testosterone once a day and I have not had any bad side affects. I would tell anyone to use them over the synthetic hormones. Insurance does not cover them and it cost like $85.00 a month but I send a claim form to my insurance and they will reimburse me about $50.00.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Just started taking bi-id hormones about 2-3 weeks ago; DHEA, Progesterone (both in pill form) and Testosterone (cream).

Some things have gotten better (energy level, libido, complection)

Some things have gotten worse (hot flashes, blurry vision, head hurts, and ugly mood swings).

Dr. says the negative things should go away in a couple more weeks.

If not, may need to add some estrogen to the mix.

More about Bioidentical HRT
Menopause is a natural occurrence and the treatments also need to come from Nature! One of the best agent that mimics the body's natural hormones is the soy isoflavone. There are also numerous products available that mimic the feminine hormones of the body.

There are some useful herbal products that I have personally recommended to my patients and they all report: Improvement in hot flashes, improved mood, improved libido and general feeling of well-being. And of course it does not sost a bomb and what's more the medicines are delivered to your door step. I order for my patients through the internet and I get it out in 3-5 days time everytime.

I'm 54 with a total hysterectomy 20 years ago. I've been through the gamut of hrt. I moved to AZ and in finding a new gyn, found a doctor going through menopause. She does bioidentical hormone pellets (and has them herself). They are implanted in my hip and last 3-4 months. They are the best! I get estrogen and testosterone. My body only uses what it needs and they are closest to what we make naturally. My life has changed drastically for the better with regards to menopause and libido. Almost like being on newlyweds again! I hopefully will have these till I die!

you need progesterone too
We need to use estrogen every day of the month in a cyclic manner. It is supposed to reach pick on day 12. If pick is not reached, body can not open receptors to take hormones in. On day 14 we have to gradually introduce progesterone also in cyclic doses, with goal to reach pick on day 21. If we are getting static doses and we never reaching pick with Estrogen and Progesterone on days above mentioned - we are doing guess work with our BHRT. Estrogen alone is growing lining of uterus and also cells elsewhere in our body. Progesterone's role is to stop growing of cells everywhere in our body and to cause shedding of our uterus, too. I finally understand how important is to know this in order to be protected against cancer. (BTW, I am on hormone replacement for 21 day today, I am mimicking the Wiley protocol way, this is pure pioneering work here in Australia, so hard to find doctor who is inspired and interested to prescribe right doses.... I am not sure about doses. My doctor had prescribed to me estrogen 2mg per gram and progesterone 100 mg per gram. The wiley protocol lady that I asked for help via email has told me that the wiley doses are 1mg per line and 20 mg per line. she is talking about tiny lines of 3cc syringes.. So for my understanding, my prescribed estrogen is 5 times stronger than it is the wiley protocol dose. and my progesterone is 5 time stronger than wiley dose. However, last few days I am getting again mood swings and heating of the body and low tolerance to stress and having feeling of disconnection.... If anyone understand and can help me about how to achieve right dosage with the bioidentical creams that I have here, I will appreciate help and advice. I understand how important is to find right doses. Also in 2 month I am going to do blood test to check if my levels are improving and to get balanced...... Lili from sydney

To me it is amazing that I conquered all this Menopause crap, with Premarin and four years ago Estring...(Dropped Premarin at that time per OB-GYN and pharmacist) Even had a Hysterectomy when they took everything out...I must be a medical miracle... Rolling Eyes
