Scared of the Possibilities ... Posted: 05-28-07 19:09pm
Hi, i'm new on this forum, joined to see
if anyone could possibly give me advice or
re-assurance on this strange pain i'm
having.
Alright, from the top, heres my story
I'm a male who is 18 years old, lived a
fairly healthy life, sports and such,
can't say i'm perfect, definately have
drank a bit too much at a few parties in
the last year or two but its not like i'm
an alcoholic or anything.
About 6 weeks ago I had a pain in my side
one morning, nothing bad really just a
dull pain, it was in the McBurnseys spot
(for those who are familiar) it was on my
right side just below the midpoint between
my hip and ribs. When the pain persisted
for a few days I was worried and everyone
was saying it was appendicitis, afterall,
symptoms matched.
Went to the hospital immediately, had a
blood and urine test done, came back all
normal, a glimpse of relief that was then
immediately plagued by the worry of what
COULD be wrong then.
A few days later the pain was still there,
i'd been reading a lot on the internet
about possible things that would cause
this pain, and I read about how sometimes
bloodtests don't show appendicitis in rare
cases, so I went back to the hospital,
worried again. After a 'quick' 8 hours of
waiting the doctor saw me, pressed on my
stomach and such and said it was no way it
was appendicitis because if it was i'd be
screaming with pain when he prodded me. He
told me to go home and come back if the
pain persisted for more than a week. At
this point I had been told this a few
times by doctors and was getting annoyed,
so I asked if there was any scans they
could do, like CT scan or ultrasound. I
got an ultrasound a few days later.
Ultrasound came back with 'no abdominal
abnormailities' written on it, meaning it
was all clear. I wasn't happy with that
though, because I was still in moderate
pain, what I would consider about a 5/10
on the pain scale.
I went to my doctor, he gave me another
blood test and urine test, which once
again, came back completely normal. So I
went home and decided i'd maybe try to
wait it out. About 3 weeks later the pain
was still there accompanied by large
amounts of gas and stomach pain. I went to
the walk-in, after looking over my blood
tests and asking me the whereabouts of the
pain the doctor decided I had Gastritis
and prescriped me Prilosec (Omeprazole)
I've been taking that for 2 weeks, last
pill was today, and the gas is gone for
the most part, but now I have new pains.
The original pain has moved up to right
below my rib bone, also I have a sort of
dull pain in what I think is my lungs
occasionally. The pain seems to be worse
at night, or maybe thats just when I have
time to sit back and worry which makes it
worse. Sometimes the pain doesnt seem to
be there until I start thinking/worrying
about it, then it shows up, maybe thats
just some psychosomatic responses to me
being a worry-wart.
Anyways, I went back to the doctors today
and got another bloodtest and urine test,
results come back in about 7-10 days, but
until then i'm worried about the
possibility that the pain I feel is
cancer. (Just like me, worrying about the
Worst Case Scenario)
Can anyone provide me with some
reassurance that it ISNT cancer? I was
thinking that if it WAS and it had spread
from way down by my side up to BOTH my
lungs in a matter of about...oh...6
weeks...I would probably have had other
more severe symptoms or something woulda
shown up on those initial two blood tests
taken about a month and a half ago...
A little reassurance? Anyone? Thanks in
advance!

What you described does not sound like
cancer in any way. Cancer does not
usually hurt, which is why it can go
unnoticed for so long. If you had a
cancerous lump that was large enough to
cause pain by poking internal organs, the
doctor would have felt it or seen it
during your exam or ultrasound.

Went to the hospital again today because I
was having chest pains, they did a chest
X-ray and blood test...both came back
normal...they think it may be a Gall
Bladder problem
