Bipolar: Day to Day Mood Changes ? Posted: 05-28-07 16:33pm
I've suspected for a while now that I've
had bipolar disorder, but from what I've
heard recently, it sounds like bipolar
disorder is something highly episodic,
coming in bouts of depression or mania
that last several weeks or more.
With me though, my mood seems to fluctuate
more on a day-to-day basis, and sometimes
will change several times within the same
day. Sometimes I feel unenergetic,
unambitious, bored, worthless, etc and
other times I feel powerful, charismatic,
daring, and highly creative.
There have been a couple times in my life
that I've gotten extremely depressed and
this has lasted for quite a while, but I
can't remember any time that I've been
"manic" for more than I short period of
time. Maybe a few days at most before I
return to a normal state. And I don't
believe I have ever experienced full-blown
mania, probably just hypomania.
Sometimes I also feel like I'm in a mixed
state, i.e. the day before I might have
been in a deep depression, but that day I
just feel a suppressed anxiety and a
feeling of hopelessness towards the
future, but at the same time I have the
high-energy, confident attitude about me.
It's kind of a grim mood, perhaps a
dangerous one too because I tend to throw
caution to the wind when I'm like this.
Anyway, does this sound consistent with
bipolar disorder? If not does anybody have
an idea what it might be? I plan to visit
a therapist about this in the near future
but I would like to be able to understand
it as best as possible too.
