Q: Rolling Thunder

So I live within one mile of the Rolling Thunder parade route. We've been out of town on every Memorial weekend since we moved here, so today is my first opportunity to walk down to see it. I've seen bits and pieces throughout my years living in the area, but I've never actually made a point of setting up at any location.

I'm expecting af at any time and I'm seriously hormonal. I'm so hormonal that I feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat.

I wish I could just go the Rolling Thunder parade and be in awe of the numbers and the spirit and cheering them on, but I'm probably going to start bawling the second I see the escort! So that will be me today. I'll be crying for four hours during the parade. Then I'll feel guilty for crying because I don't know anyone or have any relatives who were POW/MIA unless you go back to WW2. In fact, I feel guilty already.

It's a motorcylce ride that starts in various places around the US as thousands and thousands US war veterans gather to ride motor cycles to DC for Memorial Day. They arrive at various points over the weekend. They sell out every hotel and camp site beween Richmond and Baltimore. Many of them gather at the Pentagon the Sunday before Memorial Day. Others collect near the Vietnam memorial. Starting at noon, the cyclists at the Pentagon start a parade of cycles over the river and around the mall. There are so many cyclists that the parade takes four hours.

The point is to raise awareness of Americans who are POW or MIA in conflicts and wars. Because these Americans are not confirmed dead, they often don't have their names on memorials. It is mostly Vietnam vets, but thier kids and Gulf war vets also ride.
