How are chicken pox spread? Tonight we were at the store waiting for our pizza (it was a long wait Rolling Eyes) and this weird woman came over and started talking to us, and telling me my daughter looks just like her daughter and all this, and while this goes on her other daughter was standing quite close to .adriana and talking/playing with her. Well then she tells me how her little one is at home with the flippin' chicken pox!! Evil or Very Mad So...since these 2 obviously live with her, can they carry a contagious bug and make my baby sick? This lady's husband also has them I guess. And my cousin said she was pretty sure the girl that was there had the chicken pox as well because she saw the spots on her arm Confused I do believe .adriana has been vaccinated against them, but what are her chances? I am sure the girl didn't touch .adriana, but she was standing near her and I don't know if that girl touched the cart .adriana touched (The one she was in) help me Sad

I think chicken pox is most contageous before it actually appears on the skin or when the little marks are new.
That mother is still very negligent for having her child out with it. Some people could die from catching it.
Good luck, I hope she doesn't get it.

Yeah, she was kind of a nut case in the first place...but that would be a whole different post.
And I didn't see the spots, my cousin said she did....so I don't know what kind of spots she saw and I *just* took her home. I'll have to ask her when/if she gets online. But ugh....why do ignorant people feel the need to reproduce?

I know. If my daughter gets chicken pox..... Evil or Very Mad
And of all places to be, she was in a busy store (k-mart, but in the little caesars part....where we got our pizza) and on .memorial .day .weekend *sigh*
I am almost positive she's been vaccinated against the pox, I'd have to get in her file to double check....she should be ok, but it just makes me mad that people don't stop and think at the potential risks involved in their decisions.

stupid question-

chicken pox is more dangerous in adults, so at some point (later, not as babies) don't we want our kids to get it?

by the way, i do think it's wrong that that woman was out mingling with you and your baby. some people are just stupid.

That's what I thought too, but I don't remember babies ever getting a chicken pox vaccine. I wish I knew more about chicken pox.

Because most babies get antibodies against the virus from their mother while in the womb, it's unusual for a baby to come down with chicken pox during the first year. Those who do tend to have a mild case.

.i got that off of a children's health site. .i hope it helps.

i've never had chicken pox. Confused .i had the vaccine when i was like 9 or 10.. my sister's had it when they were 2 & 3.. or when they were 3 & 4.. & i never got it. & i know my best friend had them at one point (before i got the vaccine) & everyone was allowed to go to the party because their parents all wanted their kids to get it before they got older.. but my mom wouldn't let me go, lol. i'm pretty sure it's an airborn virus. because we were super surprised & confused that i didn't get it after my sisters got it.

we thought i had them one time.. after i had strep.. turns out i just had really really severe hives & a super high fever 'cause i was highly allergic to amoxicillian.. lol.

Chicken Pox Question...
The incubation period is 2 to 3 weeks. The contagious period is 1 day before skin eruptions until 6 days after the first crop of vesicles crust over. It is spread by coughing, sneezing, and the skin lesions themselves are contagious. It is not a poxvirus; it is actually a herpes virus. (You carry the virus forever)
