Hi, I just turned 21 on May 12. I'm a female, and I'm not very active and honestly I don't have very good eating habits. I'm a little chubby, but not terribly overweight.

Today when I was at Wal-mart I used the blood pressure machine and I was quite scared by the results. It said my blood pressure is 144 over 81.

What does this mean? My mom said high blood pressure is hereditary in our family.

I don't have any insurance right now, but should I see a doctor?

Thanks in advance.. Sad

My recommendation is to see your GP and have him take your blood pressure after you have been in a resting position for 10 minutes at least.
When you were in the store, chances are you were on your feet and walking around for quite a while. This is not conducive to an accurate b/p reading.
Don't worry. Just see the doc. If you have a tendency to high b/p but it's not too high maybe you can control it with regular exercise.
So, don't worry. Just take action and don't just let it go!

Yes, I agree take it aftyer resting. If you eat alot of salt try cutting back. But I think you will find it to be lower if you rested first. It's really isn't that bad.. 120/80 or lower. is where you want to be you are off just a little.. If you can't affort to go to the doc.. fire stations and will take your blood pressure for you too. no charge..
