In March of 2006 I had a minimally
invasive spinal fusion at L4-L5. This
procedure did not alleviate my pain
because my vertebrae never fused. I then
had a posterior/anterior spinal revision
at L4-L5. Six and a half months have
passed from the date of that surgery. In
some regards I feel better now than I did
during the period of time between the two
operations. My posture is straighter, and
I can move more easily. According to the
surgeon, my vertebrae have fused.
However, some of my symptoms still
persist. I still suffer chronic muscle
spasms at my neck, upper back, lower back,
and upper legs. I am still unable to sit
comfortably in a chair for an appreciable
amount of time.
Can anyone tell me if the persistence of
these symptoms is a cause of concern? I'm
terrified that my back will never heal,
and thus dehabilitate me for the rest of
my life.
I'm doing physical therapy three times per
week and acupuncture two times per week.
I was going for massages, but that did
nothing but provide me with temporary
relief. Is there anything else that I may
try to relieve my discomfort?

Welcome to .ehealth!
Have you tried using a tens unit? They can
be very helpful. Possibly doing some light
stretches could help to as well as some
back muscle strength excercises.
You migh also want to consider a second
opinion. Always better to be safe than
sorry!
I hope you are feeling better soon. Keep
us posted!
