Baby Sign Language

So I have this book to teach your baby sign language but it has a movie that goes with it that I never got from the woman who gave it to me. Has anyone here successfully taught there baby sign language before they were able to speak? I would really like some good tips on the subject. =0)

Yep. It is quite basic and repetitive. You show them what the words are. Like, we had a sign for fish. My daughter had this cute little fish she loved to play with ~ so we created a sign for that. We had a sign for 'more' a sign for 'food'. We didn't get into the specific kinds of food. I think we had one for boobsnack (I breastfed and that was what we called it) and one for cup.

Whenver you say the word, you sign it to your child. It is a great way to communicate.

I have heard that you should start at 4 months, and that they can usually sign a few things by 9 months old. But in the book I have the author recommends starting it at 7 months. I have started to try and sign for food and hungry. that is my biggest problem with her, even as an infant Jana has always had serious issues with food, she is always perfectly content and never cries and then all of a sudden it hits her and she's hungry and hungry right now! and she will whine and whine until you can get the nipple physically in her mouth. the second the milk touches her tongue she acts like nothing ever happened. drives me nutso! But what I love about baby sign language is that they can sign back to you way longer before they can speak and it makes it easier for them to learn a different language latter in life.

ONi only does the sign for thank you, & yes so far.

I'm working on "more", "no", & "stop".

Her uncle(.baron's brother is def). He doesn't do sign, he reads lips. But he's willing to refresh himself for her.

I want them to be able to communicate properly and sign is the best way.

She gets soooo frustrated still though. When she wants more, she thrwos a fit. She knows the word, but is sturggling with the sign. SHe claps instead of putting her fingertips together. Rolling Eyes lol!!

We started at around 8 months. WHen she could really comprehend what we were doing.
